When my local Single-A baseball team changed its name, it went to a vote through the newspaper... we ended up with the...
 My friends and I had a field day imagining ourselves as the announcer for their games, or writing the headlines for the sports page. Ah, the joys of living in a agriculture rich area, not to mention all of our notorious events (Scott Peterson, Gary Condit).

The last two years my fantasy football teams have been named "Alias Ron Mexico" ('04) and "Pat's [censored] Dead" ('03). If you're an NFL fan you'll know why.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (spelled correctly here I believe) is a decent nomination. UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs is a good one. Isn't there another one called the Anteaters (perhaps another U-Cal...not sure)? TCU Horned Frogs is pretty weird too even though it's better known.

Soccer - All Whites Womens Rugby - Black Ferns Cricket - Black Caps Hockey (field) - Black Sticks Wheelchair Rugby - Wheel Blacks etc. There was talk of the badminton team being known as the Black Cocks, never happened, sadly.

The year I used "Mike Darr Driving School" for FBB was probably the worst - I placed, too, so the 'virtual trophy' is pretty awful. I almost feel bad. I saw an intramural floor hockey team with "John Cougar Concentration Camp" - later, I found out it was a band's name, but I laughed. For real teams, the LV 51s is pretty solid, and the UCSB Banana Slugs is definitely the most bizarre.

Cunning Runts Cheese Flavored Pants (Chris Elliott fans unite!) Mickey Mantle's Liver Gay Paelontologists (you have to know how crazy Carl Everett is to appreciate that one) New Orleans Swim Team

At Notre Dame, the annual intramural basketball tournament usually produces some good names. "My Dixie Wrecked Again" is probably the best one from my student years.
But back in the day, the local NBC affiliate was owned by the University and their studios were located on-campus. Their weatherman was a genial guy, balding with thick Coke-bottle/Harry Caray glasses. His name was "Dick Addis." (He actually just passed away a few months ago.) This made him immensely popular with the students, and sometime later the best-ever sports team was christened: "Wave Your Dick Addis."
