you can talk about different types of hands, why poker is better than other casino games

definitions of betting, raising, calling, checking, folding
"what's the best hand in poker?" <-- write this on board

The gas topic looks like a winner. I would definitely walk through it at home once or twice to work out the timing.

Also, I laugh at people taking courses to prepare for the GMAT. (Unless of course the courses are their High School curriculum.)

ok, so i'll do a quick little thing about rising gas costs, etc and say my topic is on how to save money on gas

then put down 'Drive Less' and ask for ideas from audience...write theirs down along with some of mine from below

then repeat for 'use less' and 'pay less'

i added in some notes on some of the items below that i can mention to help fill it out rather than just make it a simple laundry list

any other ideas to help flesh this out?


How to Save Money on Gas:

I Drive Less

a) walk
b) bike
c) carpool - if takes 2 gallons/day, then carpooling 200 days/year = 200 gallons saved by only driving half the time; that's close to $600 or $50/month; can also get money from clean air campaign for carpooling
d) public transportation
e) telecommute
f) combine trips


II Use Less Gas When You Drive

a) better air filter - up to 20% difference
b) tires inflated properly - up to 25% difference
c) tuneup
d) buy a car with better mileage
e) drive at consistent speed - use cruise control
f) drive slower - 55 is 21% better than 65-70
g) park in shade (gas evaporates out of tank!)
h) avoid idling - turn off car if idling more than 30 seconds
i) remove heavy items from car - 200 pounds = 1mpg
j) turn off a/c - 1 to 2mpg
