I go off topic here because I think it's important for Americans right now to understand just why "spreading democracy and freedom" sounds so ridiculous to the people in the middle east. Same with WMDS. We sold them to Iraq to use on Iran, and possibly even provided intelligence to help them conduct their chemical attacks on Iran's children.

Again, sorry to go off topic, but I'm sure you don't want your relatives bombed either, and spreading information about the real situation in the middle east to the public is a step in the right direction towards not having that happen.

Iranian = Persians, which is a completely different ethnic group than Arabs, although the distinction is probably lost on people not from that part of the world, such as with Chinese/Korean/Japanese distinction. The reason that Arab/Persian names are similar is that for the most part the names are Muslim, which is the predominant religion of both ethnic groups.

Interestingly, most of the Persian people I know are very quick to point out they are not Arab and at some level feel their "race" is superior to Arabs (sort of like Japanese/Chinese), although I am not sure where this feeling of superiority comes from, as it is the Arab people who conquered the Persian people and converted them to their religion/culture and not the other way around.
