Re: PSA: Walking out of Costco/Sam\'s
[ QUOTE ]
I don't do a lot of shopping (my wife does more than her fair share so I consider it even) but about 10 years ago I had purchased a wallet that had a paper thin security strip deep in one of the pockets. This was probably about the time that these things became more widespread. It did not set off the alarm that day at that particular store and it was probably a couple weeks before I tripped the alarm leaving another store. At the time I usually would simply wave at the cashier I had just paid while continuing on out the door. If they said anything I would just say thanks and keep walking. Probably for the next few months I would randomly set off alarms about every other week. Seemingly 1/3 of the places that had the monitors actually alarmed. After the second or third time I just kept walking and paid no attention to the employees. Finally, when I set off an alarm walking IN a drugstore they asked If I would like for them to find the sensor. [/ QUOTE ] When I was younger we used to tear that little strip off something and stick it on my friends little brother. We did this all the time. He would always set off the alarm, but no one in the store or security ever did anything more than look our direction, and im sure we looked like prime shoplifting canidates (young and assholey). We used to joke we should actually stick merchandise down his pants since no one seemed to care. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] He says they were "black guys", but also that they were "checking out". I call BS. [/ QUOTE ] That was my first thought as well. Also, where the hell was the chicken and the watermelon? Costco sells those too. [/ QUOTE ] Also, no mentholated cigarettes? [/ QUOTE ] WTF ARE YOU PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT!! COSTCO DOES NOT TAKE FOOD STAMPS! [/ QUOTE ] Everyone in this set of replies should pat themselves on the back. Very solid contribution. |

Re: PSA: Walking out of Costco/Sam\'s
[ QUOTE ]
This is kind of off the subject, but I found it kind of funny. I live in a prodominantly white suburb of Detroit, and we were shopping at a CostCo. Many white families were shopping for the holidays, baskets full of crap, breakfast cereals, food, etc. Carts were overstuffed, bottom rack full of bottled water. While waiting in the checkout line, I saw two black guys who were checking out and looked into their cart to see two huge bottles of Absolut Vodka, two huge bottles of cranberry juice, and two bottles of orange juice and nothing else. Definitely some cultural differences reflected in their shopping choices. -J [/ QUOTE ] lol i love this post, really made me laugh |

They were probably buying for some High School kids. |

Re: PSA: Walking out of Costco/Sam\'s
I had an initially negative reaction to this thread. It was not because I thought the advice was incorrect, I just thought it was unnecessary. As a costco member I really do like the store, if they think keeping this policy helps them out I will gladly go along with it as long as it does not inconvenience me too much (which waiting in line for an extra minute does not). It is pretty rude IMO to just walk by everyone because other people will do it also and it just makes some dudes job harder.

punk, "I don't know if this would stand up in court or whatever, but I would think refusing to show a receipt for your purchases when leaving is a good enough suspicion that you have something to hide. But I'm not a lawyer." Incorrect. [/ QUOTE ] So he IS a lawyer? |

Re: PSA: Walking out of Costco/Sam\'s
Rude to leave?
I think it's rude for a store to understaff in area where they can assume I'm stuck, I've paid for my item and they think I'll endure another wait because they can't properly staff. Companies that intentionally abuse people's honesty and ignorance of their rights deserve this treatment. If the employee who I just blew by is offended, oh well, that's why they call it a job. |
