So I can't discuss players I've never seen before?

[/ QUOTE ]

You're reading way too much into what I said. In my opinion, having watched all of these players during their respective primes, there is no comparison between Jim Rice and, say, Oliver or Garvey. Unless you saw these players play and had specific observations as to why you believe they are comparable (which I would have been interested in hearing), the comparison is, in my opinion, silly. I doubt you would find anyone who was a fan during the 70s and early 80s who would tell you that Al Oliver compared favorably to Jim Rice. That's all.

Jim Rice was the Carlos Lee of his day. Is Carlos Lee a HOFer?

I wasn't saying they were at all similar players, just that they had similar results. Rice's peak was a little higher and Oliver played a little longer. Rice has the edge but it's in no way large.

4. Alan Trammell - it's a travesty he and Whitaker won't be ale to go in together

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll tell you an even bigger travesty is that Sandberg made it and Whitaker didn't even get 5% of the votes.

Nowhere have I said that Rice is a hall of famer. All I did was disagree with some of the comparisons Jack had in his list. That's all. Am I in the politics forum?

i think it's pretty clear to baseball analysts that the line for hall of fame credentials is drawn somewhere between sandberg and whitaker. it's too bad whitaker dropped off the ballot, but if he's not a hall of famer, why get upset over it?

The only thing clear to me is that Lou Whitaker should be a Hall of Famer.

Jack: How do you feel about Julio Franco, Buddy Bell, Craig Biggio, Willie Randolph and Alan Trammell?
