Chinatown

Chinatown may have one of the best endings EVER. Completely unpredictable, and it hits hard.

Just watched "A History of Violence" and really felt like I was left wanting more at the ending.

It didn't feel like there was any sense of resolution whatsoever - it just... ended.

This is exactly how I felt at the end of Swingers.

Grunching thread.

I'm not sure AI was "very good" but the ending was perhaps the worst ending ever.

Agree with ROTK. I've been re-reading the books, and my position that Tolkien needed an editor like a [censored] has been enforced. I think one of the triumphs of the film was that they were able to streamline Tolkein's wandering plotting and really make things flow. Then at the end of the whole series, they depart from that and throw in far too many false endings and pointless wrap ups.

I agree with Children of Men and A History of Violence in terms of endings that felt incomplete.

I also agree with ROTK with respect to the multiple endings, but I also didn't like the main ending, which just seemed completely predictable, even with Gollum falling to his death along with the ring. This is obviously more a criticism of the book than the movie (although I've never read past the first book); obviously the movie couldn't fundamentally change how the main plot of the series resolves.

broken flowers, unless somebody can explain that to me

I like to ask pretentious indie movie fans to interpret the ending for me. I get a sick sense of pleasure listening to some of the retarded crap they come up with.

"War of the worlds". It wasnt a great movie, but the ending was soooooo bad, that it ruined an otherwise enjoyable movie. In white: I dont mean the aliens drying from viruses, which while dumb, is the original story so you gotta go with it. I mean the fact that the entire city of boston (I think?) was in ruins, but there is grandma and grandpa all nice and clean, and hey look! they have electricity too! OH my gosh, there is the son too! He got back before they did and after going off to fight too, oh how brave! Im going to weep this is all soo wonderful. bah

Not that it's a great movie, but "One Hour Photo" is the first thing that came to mind. A decent movie that was completely retarded up by the ending.

"Magnolia" also came to mind.
