[ QUOTE ]
Well I know a man
He came from my hometown
He wore his passion for his woman
Like a thorny crown

[/ QUOTE ]

She said a good day
Ain't got no rain
She said a bad day's when I lie in bed
And think of things that might have been

[ QUOTE ]

---------------------------------
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I

[/ QUOTE ]

Kathy's Song has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Yeah, I've always loved that one. Simon is one of our great songwriters. "There but for the grace of you go I" is a masterpiece all in one line.

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera

Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenery, and she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

Kathy, Im lost, I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I dont know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey turnpike
They've all come to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

America -- Paul Simon

Don't let him get back together
With Glenn Frey!
Don Henley must die!

I had read somewhere that Paul Simon's favorite line that he had ever written was,

"And the moon rose over an open field"

I wish I could remember where I heard/read that but I think of it every time I hear that song.

Rats! I was going to post this one when I got back to my desk.

Stevie Nicks: Sometimes It's a Bitch

There are days when I swear I could fly like an eagle
And dark desperate hours that nobody sees
My arms stretched triumphant on top of the mountain
My head in my hands...down on my knees

Sometimes it's a bitch...sometimes it's a breeze
Sometimes love's blind...and sometimes it sees
Sometimes it's roses...and, sometimes it's weeds
Sometimes it's a bitch...sometimes it's a breeze

Did anyone post My Little Town yet? (I saw Mrs. Utah used it in the game thread!) I don't know if the lyrics are considered great but it's one of my favorites -

In my little town
I grew up believing
God keeps his eye on us all
And he used to lean upon me
As i pledged allegiance to the wall
Lord i recall
My little town

"Simon is one of our great songwriters."

I think there's a case to be made for him being our greatest.

You've got the cool water
When the fever runs high
You've got the look of lovelight in your eyes
And I was in crazy motion
til you calmed me down
It took a little time
But you calmed me down

When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know

When something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
It's such an unusual sight
Oh, I can't, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right

They've got a wall in China
It's a thousand miles long
To keep out the foreigners they made it strong
And I've got a wall around me
That you can't even see
It took a little time
To get next to me

When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know
When something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
Because it's such an unusual sight
Oh, I can't, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right

Some people never say the words I love you
It's not their style
To be so bold
Some people never say the words I love you
But like a child they're longing to be told, mm

When something goes wrong
I'm the first to admit it
I'm the first to admit it
And the last one to know
When something goes right
Well it's likely to lose me, mm
It's apt to confuse me
Because it's such an unusual sight
I swear, I can't, I can't get used to something so right
Something so right

Elliott Smith from his song 'Say Yes'

"They want you or they don't..."
