A few weeks ago in Seattle a 19 y.o. kid was killed by a dump truck driver. He was riding a fixed gear bike down a hill. This article speculates that inexperienced people on fixed gear bikes are at huge risk to themselves and others. Touches a bit on whether no brake fixie should even be allowed on city streets at all.

What do you think of no brake fixies?

i've seen a number of no brake fixies around town almost bite it hard in traffic. they are dangerous. why not just put a [censored] brake on your bike. does it really save that much weight?

When you walk into an office, do you think the receptionists look at you with disdain, some dirty scummy creature that's just walked off the street, or as the throbbing epitome of dangerous masculinity?

[/ QUOTE ]

The latter would be an excellent subject for a letter to Penthouse Forum.

Are you worried the day you stop being a courier, your body will go to waste?

[/ QUOTE ]
def. its almost a proven fact, that when u stop riding u automatically gain 30lbs. riding 40-50 miles a day keeps the pounds off.

the boss from the biggest company in town makes u put a brake on or u cant work.

funny t-shirt i've seen.
"Give hipsters a brake!"

its mostly just an ego thing. in a flat city, its not that big of a deal but here and other hilly cities ie SF, i think its just stupid. my singlespeed has a flipflop hub (i can switch from free to fixed) but has a brake.

i have a messenger buddy in portland oregon and there is a new city ordinance about having a brake. he's gotten a few fines and still refuses to put on a brake. hes thinking about moving to another city instead. lol.

OP, what's your position on the claim that cycling causes infertility in men? Do your employers have any policies on this? Can you or your co-workers sue if they can prove that cycling made them infertile? Also what's the male to female ratio of bike messengers?
