Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
[ QUOTE ]
blarg, post this in oot and you'll be disappointed to see that, sober or not, the majority side with the cops (one of the nice things about the lounge imo). [/ QUOTE ] You're probably right. It skews younger there, and young people like to shout and be provocative, and aren't exactly famous for their empathy. |

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
it's obv impossible to restrain an unarmed person with 4 or 5 officers, it's not like they are being trained in it or anything. the 5'4" female officer should call backup or consider a career where physical confrontations with 180lbs+ men are less likely. why are we arguing anyway, the taser worked perfectly well, the threat has been eliminated no?

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] If the guy had a knife or any other kind of weapon I could understand the cops, but 4 or 5 man should be able to restrain one person without killing him. Looks like they took the easy way out, at least in their mind. [/ QUOTE ] Whenever one of these taser incidents occur someone posts something like this. Do people really want to return to the good old days when the cops would just bash people over the head with a wooden nightstick? The cops walked up to a guy who's throwing furniture around, doesn't speak English, and looks like he's either a psycho or on drugs. It's a very sad incident, but they weren't out of line using the taser on him. [/ QUOTE ] It's possible for both bashing someone on the head with a nightstick and tasering someone to be wrong. Pretty easily really. Just because force can be applied doesn't mean it should be, or that it should be applied particularly strongly. We hire police to use discretion. It's one of the things that separates them from simply being thugs. If as individuals they can't use discretion, they are completely unfit for service no matter how competent they might be in other regards. If as a system, policing does not demand discretion, that system itself is faulty and the citizenry too deserves its share of the blame. It's up to us as citizens to remain vigilant that our institutions do not go awry. They're here to serve us, not the other way around. |

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
So you have no idea what to do. Instead of seeing a video of the guy getting tasered you'd rather see a video of the guy getting body slammed to the floor by the cops. If you're going to live in fantasy world where 4 or 5 cops can "subdue" a combative suspect without hurting him at least come up with something cool like the Vulcan neck pinch.

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
i wonder how cops would handle the situation in countries where they're not equipped with tasers, prolly just shoot him. i mean what are the alternatives?

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
What about countries without armed officers to shoot him? That Polish guy would have taken over the airport.

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
They would just beat his ass. That's a much better alternative because no one has ever died from an old fashioned ass kicking by the cops.
The taser and other less lethal equipment are the best of a bunch of crappy options. If you think the cops can just grab the guy and cuff him without hurting and potentially killing him you're deluding yourself. Edit: The taser may not have even killed this guy. It may have been the weight of the cops on his back causing him to suffocate. I'll be interested in seeing the autopsy results. |

Re: Police kill Polish man @ Vancouver Airport
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] obv there's only beating someone to death with a bat or using the tazer when it comes to restraining some dude . [/ QUOTE ] That's cute, but that isn't what I said. Feel free to explain to us in detail your plan on how the cops should detain combative suspects without anyone getting hurt. Make sure your plan can be employed effectively by the 5'4" female officers on the force as well. [/ QUOTE ] Let alone 4 6 feet plus 200 pounds plus ofiicers. Yeah they were fearing for their safety. Give me a break. We are not talking about a 5' 4" woman here that is fearing for her life. Tramautic force is sometimes justifiable but not in this case. Maybe you should pick your battles and then you would have some credibility here. As of now you have none. |
