[ QUOTE ]
I have now permanently erased all memory of the first two and a half days of my trip, because driving through the rockies BLEW everything else away. I can't remember the last time I saw such beautiful scenery. Every turn you make brings you to a new valley town that looks like a mining camp from the 1900s. Each mountain I passed seemed to have its own climate. One minute I'm swerving around colorful rock scrambles, then the next I'm passing over a fertile green valley overlooking the Colorado river, then I tunnel underneath one of the mountains and am surrounded by snow on the other side. It was craziness every step of the way. My only regrets are that I didn't have a digital camera with me and that it turned night halfway through the "good" part of the mountains. I should have planned that better... but at least I will see all of Utah and Arizona in the daylight tomorrow. [/ QUOTE ] Brag: My state rules. Good luck in Vegas |

[ QUOTE ] You been to In-n-Out yet? You gotta hit that up ASAP. [/ QUOTE ] As hard as it will be, I am REALLY going to try and avoid the whole strip club/escort scene as much as I can. If I succumb they will eat my bankroll for breakfast. [/ QUOTE ] www.in-n-out.com/ |

Update: In & Out burger is da bomb. Their animal fries rule.
I stayed at the Somerset motel for about 2 weeks, looking on Craigslist and some other sites for apartments every day. If you're ever in the same situation, DO NOT settle for the first place you see if you're not really happy about it. I almost moved into some tiny room in a ghetto complex with paper thin walls and crackheads everywhere just because I was tired of searching and it seemed like nothing in the good neighborhoods was in my price range. But I stayed patient and finally struck gold in the form of a nice 1 bedroom condo for $675 a month in Summerlin with a washer, dryer, dishwasher, all other imaginable kitchen appliances AND a balcony! The complex even has tennis courts, a basketball court, 4 swimming pools and a gym! I really lucked out. So far I have been winning roughly twice as much as my estimated cost of living from poker, so I have yet to begin any type of job hunt. Hopefully I can keep this up and just save save save so that money will never be a big issue for me. Ironically, the majority of my winnings out here have come from online rather than live. I think this has a lot to do with my growing impatience for the slowness of live games. I find it very difficult to stay tight after the first few hours. My biggest live cashcow has been the limit Omaha game at Boulder station. The first two times I played it I made $300-$400 and have made $100+ many other times. These were all only 2-4 hour sessions as well because as I said I'm having trouble staying patient and sitting still. I've also played a bit of $8-$16 limit at the Wynn, the B and the Venitian, but it has only been marginally profitable thus far. I'm still generally afraid to play no-limit even though I KNOW I am a winning player at low stakes, but I am slowly easing into it. I played a few hours at MGM Grand the other night and made $150. Had a bad session at Hooters a few nights after though where I got sick and tired of being soooo card dead and watching crazy old black guys raise 20x the blind preflop and having nothing to fight back with. Finally got fed up and limp-pushed 77 UTG for my last $100 after one of the aforementioned crazy black guys made it $50 to go from the SB. Obviously he had 88 and slowrolled it like a champ. It was only one buy-in, but still, that game was sooooooo profitable I should have stayed patient and waited for something legitimate to double up with. That was dumb and I was really upset with myself over it, but hopefully I've learned my lesson. Good news was I made the entire buy-in back in one hand of Full Tilt PLO that night. Hurray for successful loss chasing! Other than that I haven't done much. I bought a nice bed since that is important to me and am hoping to find good garage sales for the rest of my furniture. I got a new phone and number the other day. I ordered direct TV but when they guy came to install it he said I had too many trees in the way. I will get Cox cable eventually but I was hoping to go with an alternative because they seem like a typical evil, greedy, monopoly of a cable company which I generally loathe. For now I'm just watching lots of DVDs and playing poker online to pass the time. I still don't know a single person here by name which is kind of sad. I am just not outgoing enough. Hopefully I will meet some 2+2ers come WSOP time. I am also dangerously low on my weed stash! But that will be taken care of this weekend when I visit my friend in San Diego. More updates to come if anything ever actually happens to me |

Finally updated!
Congrats on finding a place like that, some parts of Vegas are pretty nice. And you might as well stay on craigslist for furniture and stuff, why garage sales? As far as playing live goes, I'm sure you'll slowly learn how to play live with patience. Eventually you'll see how profitable it will be and how soft the games are at some levels. I'm usually a $2-5NL player, but the few times I've played the $1-2NL at Caesar's the action has been so soft. I would definitely check that out if you're lookin to get your feet wet. Also, $8-16 and $15-30 LHE at the Wynn are super juicy. As for weed...there's plenty of people on here who can probably help you out, but stay away from the super shady places out there. |
