A real Yankee wouldn't upstage Derek Jeter by playing better than him.

This is possibly the stupidest thing ever said here.

I was watching some crappy sports program on FOX (local in NY) and the one guy was saying A-Rod still isn't "A REAL Yankee" if he hits 62 HR's and that the Yankee record would be tainted. I forget who it was, I've seen him on TV a million times.

BTW- He happened to mention Mattengly in his argument about "Real Yankees". Which begs the question... If A-Rod isn't a real Yankee because he hasn't won a ring, but Donnie is... What makes a "Real Yankee"?

[/ QUOTE ]

The whole "real Yankee" debate is stupid. There are a variety of reasons a player is or is not a favorite of the fans. Longevity in New York and Role in winning a World Series are clearly factors but they are not the only factors.

Many fans have high (and often unreasonable) expectations for ARod. They are frustrated when he doesn't come through at least 3x as often as the rest of the team -- and, of course, in the post season.

Hearing the phrase "True Yankee" makes me want to punch humans.

Yankee fans are retarted; I hope A-Rod opts out and signs with Boston for fewer dollars. Man, that would be so crucial!

No it was very funny. Despite the fact that you have season tickets, you suck.

There's a better chance of him hitting under 52.5 HR's this year.
