I think you should give Staropramen a try. Make sure you don't get the darker one, the lighter one will suit you better I believe. It's my absolute favorite beer, and I think it fits your critera perfect. Give it a try.

2nd. Had this in the Czech Republic and hailed it as my favorite lager in Europe. It was the last of the good Czech beers to start showing up in the US (Budvar/Czechvar and Pilsner Urqell) but still not in Knoxville, TN

If you live in the UK , try a pint of Edinburgh's festival beer - Caledonian 80/- ("Eighty Shilling") at a local pub. It ain't much good out of a bottle or can, but this is my favorite darn pint in the world these days. A few select pubs in Canada (I may make the drive) and elsewhere are getting it now but not the US As a matter of fact, try all 80/- beers you come across. I tell you this one's the best, but this is one category of Scottish beers that isn't sufficiently celebrated outside of Scotland. And it won't be too dark and funky for you either. It is a mild amber colored beer with a distinct and smooth flavor.

Belgian beer is the best in the world. Try to get ahold of Trappist (Monk) beers, especially Tripel's. Chimay seems to be the most common in the states, but you can find others. Also look for Unibroue, they have 4 or 5 great Belgian beers with 8% or more ABV.

Do you mean Bell's Oberon? Everything I've ever had from Bells has been fantastic (the Two Hearted Ale is one of the best beers I've ever tasted). It's available now here on the east coast...is this national yet?

I enjoy Stella Artois quite a bit. Not heavy, not too light, packs a bit of a punch (as opposed to me having to drink a case of Miller Lite to get a buzz) and I really like the taste. An increasing number of bars here in town are putting it on tap, which is a welcome development.

[/ QUOTE ]

Stella is a good choice.
