JJ was a 2p2 mod briefly, he got pissed off when SpicyF banned him from IRC, so banned Spicy from the forums and was demodded subsequently.

I was logged onto my account at his house for maybe 45 seconds and never played a hand. We sent another 2k back and forth before the savagegamble fiasco a couple days ago. Pokerstars .... it's FANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNTASTIC!

What was the "savagegamble fiasco"?

There's a huge difference between multiaccounting MTTs, where you've got more than one horse in a tournament, and sharing accounts online.

The later has been mosty allowed by various sites, is pretty common place, and I wouldn't consider it cheating. Simply an artifact of the online environment.

The former is gross and nasty.

So it's okay to deceive people? It's okay for someone to use the account of a player whose style you are well acquainted with, whom you've played many times before, not volunteer he is not in fact that player and proceed to steamroll you heads up playing an entirely different game?

This may not be cheating but it sure as hell isn't above board.

Just once I'd like to see you 100% squarely on the right side of an issue having to do with scumbags ruining the game instead of making excuses, locking threads and banning people for bringing it up.

[/ QUOTE ]About a year back Fossilman said in stars chat that he had won $100k+ "playing Ram Vaswani's cards" I didn't catch all the details, but IIRC Ram had some place to be and Greg finished a tournament for him. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have done that if it was against policy...

edit: I've also done similar things with my brother when I have had power outages and such and don't have a problem with it.

This is almost definitely 100% true. I can confirm it because, if you read the AJ thread in MTTC, I said someone told me about a JJP account that I forgot the name of afterwards, but would know if I saw it again.

Reading that thread gave it to me - iemdavid. That's the 'final 2 tables of the Million' account I talked about in the other thread, and it's certainly JJ's.

I think this is such an unavoidable consequence of online poker that it's almost pointless to engage in a debate about its ethics. Personally I wouldn't do it.

I think it's different to do what HIV/Tongi did to Gilfwulf, and tell him he was playing one person when he was playing another than do what people do with the PeachyMer account, where nobody seriously pretends that it's Peachy using the account when it's playing 200/400.

My bigger point is that running multiple horses in the same MTT, and potentially having them at the same table is a far greater abuse of the system than account sharing, and that they shouldn't be discussed in the same context.

There is also a serious issue with these cheaters being protected by their doppelgangers. The kids with nothing else going in their lives except "lending my account to an internet superstar" and therefore they have no reason to out anyone or alert the sites - their reason for being "cool" will end if they do.

This isn't like clamming up when asked to snitch on a drug user or some other intrapersonal crime. These guys are stealing from other people and picking off the pool of tourney players one at a time. As to the grown men that are in the know and do nothing about it, and there are many on this site -- they are as bad as the cheaters themselves.

Ya know, I never remember reading much about this being such a huge deal until people actually started getting banned. Now it's OMG OMG cheaters OMG gonzo!!11!!1!

Sure I think it's unethical, and the clear motive behind doing it is to trick your opponent into thinking he's playing somebody else. Short of going Michael Jackson with the plastic surgery and bleaching yourself, this sort of thing is never going to work at a B&M casino.

When you play online, you should just assume (unless you're completely naive) that this crap is going to happen. While I believe this practice is unethical, I cannot for the life of me see how this is cheating per say. In fact, I think it's a bet of a shark getting some karma thrown back his way because he figures "oh goodie, newbie. Monies time!", when in reality he's playing a seasoned pro and gets cleaned out. We're supposed to feel bad for the shark now because he was too naive to think "wait a minute, high stakes table and some guy shows up out of nowhere? Maybe I should take it easy for a bit and see how he plays or rail him". Pokertracker or something? Wouldn't it seem odd when a guy jumps from .25/.50 to 10/20nl in a week? I thought these internet pros were smart?

Seems to me much to do about nothing, and Dids is right. This practice is nowhere near as bad as putting yourself in multiple seats in one tournament.
