This is going to degenerate quickly.

Saying the U.S. deserved to be attacked and 3000 innocent civilians killed is a little like saying 6 million Jews deserved to die because some of them stabbed Germany in the back at the end of WW I. Or us saying that because the majority of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, we now get a free pass to flatten Mecca and Medina.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think those situations are necessarily similar. It's important to understand that we are the most powerful economic, political, and military power in the world. What can downtrodden countries do against us? To say that they have to engage in a traditional military war where they are guaranteed to be crushed is unrealistic imo. The US can go and bomb the crap out of Germany or Iraq and it's ok because it's a "real" war, but for anyone else to kill our civilians without warning us about it first....how dare they!?

I personally think it can be argued that terrorism is a legitimate way to fight a war when you have no other chance of winning. The only question in this case is are the terrorists really fighting for their country, under a government's sanction, or are they just rogues out killing people in an attempt to get their own way? That question is hard to answer because obviously if they were openly sanctioned the US would just beat the crap out of the offending country.

[/ QUOTE ]

As long as al Qaeda only targeted U.S. governmemt and military installations, you might have had a case for it being a legit form of warfare, but when they cross the line into civilian targets, there is no longer legitimacy. You can try and justify terrorism all day, but in no way is it a legitimate form of warfare. One can argue for guerilla warfare, that's legit, but terrorism, and let's define it as the deliberate targeting of civilians, has no place in a civilized world. Are you really advocating the targeting of civil populations as a tactic? Have you no shame, or is anything that hurts America legit, because we're too big and strong?

I hadnt planned on seing this movie, just figured it was gunna be some over hyped propaganda film, that villified the terrorists and made the people on the plane look like giant heros.

Your review however has me interested in seeing it since it sounds like thats not the case.

[/ QUOTE ]

So the movie shouldn't villify the terrorists? What the hell else could it do?

I really wish people who think the US deserved or earned 9/11 would just [censored] leave.

Sponger,

It's like the chick at a club wearing tight pants and skimpy top that gets raped...I mean come on, she was asking for it!

Terrible analogy. In my opinion, it's impossible to deny that American and European foreign policy throughout the 20th Century, if not "created" the current problems (which I think is unfair to say), at the very least put into place the mechanisms that allowed it to get to where we are. But anyway, this should be in the politics forum.

On topic, I just got back from the film, and it was very intense. It's hard to say I enjoyed it given the subject matter, and it made me feel a little weird afterwards, but I would still highly recommend it.

New,

Relax, this isn't the Politics forum and is the reason for the joke. If you want to talk in circles with other clowns I believe "Politics" is 5 forums above OOT.

This thread has reminded me of why I never go into that dreadful forum they call "Politics."

I re-watched this today on pay-per-view, as I was interested in how it would hold up to a second viewing.

It was like watching the movie for the first time again: I was completely caught up in the events and people and was on the edge of my eat the whole time. The last twenty minutes on Flight 93 were just as unnerving and emotional as they were the first time. It's just incredibly film making.

I know I'm repeating myself, but man...United 93 is a truly great motion picture. Possibly the best one I've seen in the last 5 years.

I watched this for the first time today. It is a truly great film. I think I was crying off and on the last 20-30 minutes or more, thinking of friends, co-workers, etc lost that day.

Watching the second plane footage on CNN was like a Tyson punch to the kidney. I was in shock just from watching and remembering all over again.

The FAA/ATC footage from Boston/NYC/Newark was amazing as they don't know what happened at first. I'll never forget my broker at EuroBrokers calling me right after we finished a trade to say a plane had hit the tower, we thought it was a small prop plane at first. 5 minutes later it's on the news and CNN still doesn't know what's happening.

This is the most powerful movie I can remember seeing.

I'm thankful we live in a nation where we have freedom to choose not to watch this movie. At the same time I'm extremely disappointed that more of us haven't seen it.

Yes, this movie seriously moved me emotionally. I had a lump in my throat the last 20 minutes, and after the end my heart rate was racing and I was literally scared, sad, lost. It was almost as if the movie had caused me to have a panic attack. I think everyone should see the movie, but it is understandable why some choose not to: it is a major emotional ride.
