[ QUOTE ]
Question to college basketball fans who say NBA guys don't play defense...

[/ QUOTE ]

These people are wrong. They just "think" that way because the NBA game is geared more towards players creating their own shots, while in college, the team creates the shots for the player.

NBA seems to rely more on individual skill (1 on 1) compared to college and their team skill (5 vs 5).

Personally, I don't really care for the NBA minus the playoffs. I have a strong feeling this is due to no NBA team in Pittsburgh though while I've been going to Pitt hoops games for 15+ years.

This is one thing that I never understood about US culture...?

[/ QUOTE ]

Consider yourself lucky. I've lived in the US most of my life, and this doesn't even make the list-- well behind questions like, "How do you have an entire aisle dedicated to cereal?"

[/ QUOTE ]

Is that really that hard a question? Cereal is probably the most popular breakfast in the US. There are lots of varities of cereal. Therefore, cereal takes up a lot of space in US grocerie stores.

College sports = better atmosphere, team spirit, etc.
Pro sports = better play

For those who think the quality of play is better in college, do you honestly think a college team could beat a professional one?

jstnrgrs makes an excellent point.

IMHO college football is unwatchable because it's all so pointless an annoying with the garbage BCS system and lack of playoffs. It's fun watching the marching band, the cheerleaders, the crazy fans, etc. and rooting for your school vs. the old rival, blah blah blah. I went to UT and still try to watch the UT-A&M game and love to hear the stories of stealing each other's mascot etc.

CFB has problems ~110 teams 12games and if you are lucky the top10 teams will play a grand total of 10games vs each other out of the ~120 games they play

I don't think that is what people are claiming. They are claiming that the college game can be more entertaining to watch..especially basketball. You would have to pay me to watch an NBA game. I simply don't like all the one-on-one, create your own shot NBA style. I much prefer watching all 5 guys on the team get involved.

The most entertaining basketball I ever watched was the old Pete Carill (sp?) Princeton teams. It was a joy to watch. I guess it is a matter of taste, but simply having better athletes does not make the games more entertaining by definition.

A lot of people saying
NCAA BBall>>>>> NBA
are basically saying
March Madness >>>> NBA

Also people saying college players try more; guys who don't try in the pros likely don't try in college.

I disagree with that. There are 2 main reasons:

1. Players try hard in college because they are hoping to be high draft picks and get fat, guaranteed pro contracts. That is a major incentive to play extremely hard to impress the scouts. Once you get the big contract, it can take some of that work-ethic away. You get paid the same, whether you play hard or not.

2. In college, the coaches are the stars. They have all the power, the fame, the big money, the endorsements. They run the program. In the NBA, the players are the stars. They have the money and power. Magic Johnson could snap his fingers and get Paul Westhead fired.
