Re: Odd / weird foods you eat, most people haven\'t heard of
I'd add the grossest thing i've ever had was tibetan tea, a gross salty mix of yak milk/butter, rice and god knows what. It was foul.
I drank the whole glass though. |

Re: Odd / weird foods you eat, most people haven\'t heard of
I remember hearing about this many times, and always thinking I would have a hard time choking it down. Really foul.
Oh well, not as foul as that liquor they make in some South American tribes by having their women chew some leaf or root or whatever and then spit into a big trough, then letting the spit ferment. I mean, WTF, people! |

Being half Iranian, whenever I'm home I frequently eat numerous dishes the non-Persian masses would have never heard of.

There was a fun story about germ-phobic Klaus Kinski being offered it when filming Fitzcarraldo. The native Indians involved in the movie had already offered to kill him for director Werner Herzog, who politely declined. Kinski couldn't do it. I think if I was worried someone would kill me for refusing the hospitality of their fermented spit, the decision to drink would still take a long time. |

Re: Odd / weird foods you eat, most people haven\'t heard of
fried red pepper strips
You cut sweet red peppers into strips and dry them out. They keep that way and you can store them in a dry spot for months. Then fry them up and salt them (as you would potato chips). This is definitely Italian in origin, but I don't know other people that do this. They offer sweet, salty, and bitter (the frying adds an acrid taste) all at once in a crispy, deep red form. |
