[ QUOTE ] Santana is guaranteed to be a top pitcher for the next 4-7 years. [/ QUOTE ] ????????????????????????????? No one is guaranteed to be a top pitcher for that long. lol @ devoting extra resources to the one aspect where you may be the best in baseball |

It's guaranteed. Santana is 100% injury proof and his stuff will only get better. I have verified this with my time machine.

Re: One of my friends thinks Theo Epstein is an overated GM.
I don't know if anybody's mentioned this or not, but it's almost impossible to know how much Theo is responsible for the dealings of the club. Is he the one signing the free agents and making trades? Is he mostly doing this, with the occasion interjection from ownership? How do we have any idea?
In Oakland, for example, we can be pretty sure that Billy Beane is making all the GM decisions for the team. OTOH, I find it hard to belive that Theo has "free reign" to make any kind of decisions he wants. His youth and inexperience + the meddlesome nature of the owners (just my personal opinion) may mean that he's hardly doing anything beyond just being a figurehead for the team. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's almost impossible to discern whether Theo is a good GM or not. It sure *looks* like he's doing his job real well. I mean, we have the best team in baseball, a stocked farm system, and are one of the top 3 or 4 favorites to win the World Series every year. So, clearly, the organization is doing very well. That may be because of Theo or in spite of him. If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere in between. |
