Re: Jman claims to be +EV vs. Phil Ivey
Ivey is one of the best overall players in the world, but he's no clear favorite in NLHE against some of these young internet players. What's lost on many is that guys like jman and krantz didnt just win the lotto and start playing HSNL, but rather have beat the brains out of lower levels along the way. This is over tens of thousands of hands, and is not the result of a three week run of good luck.
These guys have played TONS more hands of NLHE than Ivey has. When playing live, I'd bet that Ivey plays 10 hands of non-NLHE for every 1 of NLHE, and that's probably understating it a good bit. So, would the best young NLHE players have an edge over him, given that they focus almost solely on it and are "specialists?" Seems completely reasonable to me. I know if I had the money I'd insta-stake guys like durrrr and krantz and fwf in the big game at Bellagio if they were playing NLHE. I'm not a "fanboy" of any of them, but I think I understand the reality of all of this. I do not, however, know the origin of "salazzzaaaar" or for that matter, "DUCY", and wish that someone would provide edification. |

Sklansky often asks this after he states a fact that is not his primary point but is still significant somehow. For example, in Sklansky Talks Blackjack: "If the dealer was showing a deuce you would hit a second time if your first hit was an ace, deuce, trey, or eight. (Do you see why?) Of course, that might change based on the count." |

Re: Jman claims to be +EV vs. Phil Ivey
It looks like the few people who have actually played over 1k hands against Ivey thinks JMan is a favorite.
I think their opinion is going to mean a lot more then people who have never played him. |

I'd say it's pretty neutral EV, except that Jman gives up split pots a lot.

Re: Jman claims to be +EV vs. Phil Ivey

[ QUOTE ] If the nosebleed players seemingly have a large edge over Ivey, how is he up a fairly significant amount over tens of thousands of hands at 200/400+ since last fall? [/ QUOTE ] Noatima/Skywalker [/ QUOTE ] Skywalker hasn't been playing in big games in a looong time, and there is no way that more than 25% of the money he's made is from NOATAIMA, if its that high- simply because if he had won 25% of the money he's made from NOTAIMA, it would mean other players had not won nearly as much as Noataima as they have. Furthermore, I mean to say that Jman is wicked EV, or EV at all, could not be taking in all the facts. Against Sbrugby, Rugby was repeatedly putting his money in behind. I can think of so many hands where Ivey has the nuts and people come over the top of him, the first one coming to mind when Phill and Antonius are deep-stacked, and Ivey flops quads, and Patrick comes over the top of him with a J-high flush draw. Not just that, look at Phills BB/100, its pretty good, and considering he's up a lot on so few hands is saying something. |
