Can I get 2011 in the 'what year will Blevins start the all-star game' pool?

You've seen who the Cubs have had catching the last month, right?

[/ QUOTE ]

bowen > kendall, esp once you factor in d

Bowen wouldn't have been catching nearly as many games as Kendall will be which means there would have to have been a lot more hill/soto in the mix.

[/ QUOTE ]

there's nothing stopping him from catching more games than he would, though. the fact that the only credible defense of this trade is that the cubs would've continued to mismanaged their own roster (meaning playing bowen less than they should) speaks to the power of the cubs' front office.

I don't care one way or the other on this trade, but why is everyone so down on Kendall after playing badly for one-half a season out of a twelve-year career? Surely poker players know to trust lone term results ahead of short-term small samples.

Kendell is probably just an average-hitting catcher at this point in his career, but the Cubs could use an average-hitting catcher...their current starter is batting .156.

Glad to say good bye to Jason -- the rest is a detail.

Jason Kendall had 601 AB in 05 and OPSed .666
He had 552 AB in 06 and OPSed 709

so we're looking at around 1300 PA entering this season of replacement level performance with bad D. he's caught 1625 career games and is 33. his ba will probably grow a bit higher, but he is really bad.

Kendall is currently ranked 80th of 81 catchers in VORP so far this year, with a fairly big gap between him and 79th, lol.
