Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
[ QUOTE ]
Do you think Charlie ever stopped to consider *why* no other college teams run a "pro-style" offense? [/ QUOTE ] That's a level of thinking Charlie can't get to. All he knew was that he ran a "pro-style" offense in the NFL that was only above average once (and even that year, barely above average) in his last three years, yet got handed the ND job on a platter as an "offensive guru". Now he's taking recruiting classes ranked in the top 40 and turning them into teams ranked 118th. Does anyone really think he has a clue what's he's doing? |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
[ QUOTE ]
Weis has clearly lost this team. They're undisciplined, can't block, can't tackle, and act like they don't want to be out on the football field. It seems the team has said [censored] it and just wants the season to end. I've seen baseball teams 30 games out of first place in September play with more passion and urgency. [/ QUOTE ] I found him mentioning opening with San Diego next year astounding. No one mentions their opener next year, not even in the context of talking about finishing strong to build momentum in the program. I also think he's gone with Clausen over Sharpley to give him experience and because being led by a Junior QB doesn't really fit the narrative. And these things have not helped with his players. Every college coach should have a fan base as supportive as you. I do think the AD would have to go. |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
good post Bigdaddydvo
I understand the Irish wanting to forget this year. I think that is the right plan........ starting in 3 weeks. To already quit on this year before it is over is just piss poor. To make a comparison that isn't great, I think part of the reason Illinois beat Ohio State this year is the confidence they gained losing 17-10 last year to the Buckeyes late in the year. The young Irish need a nice outcome in one of these last two games to have somthing to build upon. *Note: that 17-10 outcome has come up alot in the press the last week, but the game wasn't that close. Oh well I mean, we all joked about gg season and gl next year, but no team should quit with games left to play. |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
[ QUOTE ]
Weis said about his post-game talk to the players. “My message is that I'm 51 years old. My greatest attribute professionally is as a teacher. That's my greatest attribute. I've always been able to teach at a very high level, and the subject happens to be football. [/ QUOTE ] I'm having a hard time imagining myself beginning a sentence "My greatest attribute is" unless it ended with "humility." The fact that he is telling students that his greatest attribute is as a teacher is bizarre. I'm gonna attribute it to shell-shock. I see he also mentioned San Diego St again yesterday in his post-game. Weird to me that he keeps doing that. |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
interesting facts that came up on ESPNU's Inside the Polls show
through their first 35 games as ND head coach Ty Willingham 21-14 overall 11-7 home 7-8 v ranked 0-1 bowl game Charlie Weis 20-15 10-8 home 4-8 v ranked 0-2 bowl game |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
Are those ranked totals for year-end rankings or at the time the teams played?

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
Willingham's ranked is the same in both cases
has to be ranked when they played though for Weis as he has only one win verse a team ranked at the end of the year so, that ranked stat is at the time played it doesn't change for Ty if end of year is used it gets much worse for Charlie if end of year is used I looked this up using this year's Phil Steele guide |

Re: The state of Notre Dame football.
It's interesting that TW is now bracketed by coaches he outperformed over three years that will have gotten more than the three years he did.

Do you think Charlie ever stopped to consider *why* no other college teams run a "pro-style" offense? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know. Wasn't SC's offense pretty much unstoppable when Chow was the OC, and they were running a pro-style offense? To be honest, I'm not even exactly sure what a 'pro-style offense' is. How is it different from a West Coast Offense? |
