dunno, but Jack mentions that Oceanic gave them all free flights, implying that the crash did in fact take place in whatever future time he is at

I'm guessing they used this to get around the fact that everything was taking place in 2004 and all the flashbacks were getting stale. S4 takes place in the present/future with "flashbacks" filling in the blanks of how everyone got there. Or, if you prefer, picks up where everyone left off and uses flash forwards. Haha, this rules.

Also consider the possibility that these are flashes the Jack might be having (like Desmond's). This might be a motivator for him wanting to stay ON the island.

First episode in a long time that Charlie was not too annoying, and almost enjoyable at some points.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Charlie wanted to really be a hero and fulfill Desmonds premonition about dying in the Looking Glass so everyone else gets saved.

I thought the boy / woman that Jack saved was gonna be a big reveal at the end of the episode, but I guess not. Since it's not years and years in the future, I don't think it's anyone from the island ( ie. there's no ~7yo kids )

At first I thought it was Sawyer in the casket, then Ben seemed to make more sense ... I really don't think it's Locke. Now it looks like it's J.B., and we'll find out more about him in season 4, guessing it's Jacob. Looking at the posted screenshot, that casket does seem kind of small ... the fact that it's in the real world lends credence that it's someone who actually wanted off the island ( "help me" ? )

I really think that season 4 is going to be about the Survivors and the Others coming together to fight the new boat Others ... what event occurs to convince the Survivors this is the right thing will be a pretty big island reveal IMO ...

Seems obvious that Kate's "he" is Sawyer, but a lot can happen between "now" and "then"

The random in the pharmacy said that Jack was a hero twice now, whether that meant the child and the mother from the wreckage or something bigger, I'd have to go with the latter

One minute Locke can't move his legs ... then he sees Walt ... then he can move his legs again ... magical healing powers ... mind over matter ... who knows ...

Maybe Locke is actually dead and now he's a spirit of the island

i'm surprised at the number of people who think this flash forward was some kind of "possible" future or alternate reality, or a desmond-like premonition. i was under the impression that it is what will eventually happen.

What if the Flash forward is a flash of Desmond's that he has after seeing that it's not Penny's boat?

And he finds a walkie-talkie (maybe Mikhail's left in the station) and calls Jack to say not to call the boat / hide from the people?

EDIT: Basically, I see no way they get off the island while the show continues.
