Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
Even if they give A-Rod an offer matching the 9/$230m pre opt out offer I am not sure its wise. Paying A-Rod $25m a year for his ages 38-41 to DH/1B may turn out to be brutal, esp. if he has a serious injury.
My guess this, along with the silly collusion talk, are signs that no good team is willing to pay more than a rational amount for a safe period during his decline years, say 6/$150m. Boras has probably lined up a bad team to pay much more, just as he did in 2000, but this time A-Rod isn't willing to endure that just for a little more money. He wasted three years in Texas that he can never get back, does he want to waste his remaining good years hoping to turn around a bad team? |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] According to the first source, the Yankees are waiting for Mariano Rivera to sign a new contract before finalizing any plans with Rodriguez, who is expected to take a 10-year deal worth roughly $275 million. That would be about $75 million less than Boras has been looking for, though most industry insiders believe there was never going to be a $350 million offer out there for Rodriguez. “Alex is going to be back with the Yankees,” the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been made public. “The Yankees don’t have a choice. How are they going to compete without Alex? They need him back.” [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] $275M/10yrs. it's comparable to the reported extension. yeah 10 years is long, but it's ARod, and it's not for a pitcher. I can live with that. i expect ARod's reputation won't completely heal until year 5 of that contract anyway. edit: for comparison, the yankees proposed extension was $241 for 8 years. of course, that included $21M of Texas' money. That means Yankees would sign ARod for 2 seasons age 40,41 for $55M. eh... with inflation, it could be much worse. |

Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
As much as I am soured by the A-Rod situation, resigning him solves so many problems. Wee wouldn't have to trade anyone and can hopefully restock the bullpen with a few minors guys and a few free agents.

I mean, good for him, I guess, but this really wasn't the ideal outcome for the Yankees. |

[/ QUOTE ] agreed, I don't like the idea of giving away pitching prospects to get Cabrera. the same team (with a few changes to the rotation) won 94 games last year and it's unlikely we will endure the same kind of start we did last year |

Don't the Yanks spend that on toilet paper? I'd hardly say that screws them. |

Can you see ARod backing down to $250-260 over 10 years? that could be a minor coup for the yanks. |
