Re: College Football Week 12
I never thought coaches were that valuable in college football, but right now the Texas Tech coach is managing the game worse than anyone I have ever seen. They're up 27-10 in the beginning of the 3rd quarter and they're running hurry up offense effectively. Luckily for them they scored again, but imagine if a knowledgeable coach was in there, who'd be letting the clock run down to :02 every time before snapping it.
Now, I understand that TT is a "fun 'n gun" type team and their identity is playing fast or whatever, but they are definitely going to lose this game in the final minutes if they keep doing this. The AD should literally be on the field chasing after Leach telling him if he doesn't run out the clock he's fired. Instead he'll be hailed as a genius. In the Cincy game, they're running it on 2nd and long with 7 minutes left down by 2 scores. This isn't as egregious, but they haven't been doing well running it anyways. |

Re: College Football Week 12
17 points in 2 quarters is in no way safe. Play your normal offense, worry about running the clock out with one Q left.

USF is absolutely embarrassing Louisville. I'll be pissed if Rutgers loses to Louisville next week.

[/ QUOTE ] Letting the clock run down every play shortens the game and doesn't let your opponent get as many possessions. When your opponent doesn't get as many possessions, they won't score as many points, which is good. When you don't run the clock out when up 17 points, it's usually because you think you are way better than your opponent, so it shouldn't matter. I bet TT starts running out the clock with ~8 minutes left. |

Re: College Football Week 12
But it also affects your offense. If there's something you can exploit by going to the no huddle to extend your lead, go ahead and do it.
