What does this have to do with anything. I don't really care what he was projected to do, what he is actually doing is much more imporatant. [/ QUOTE ] and therein lies the problem. anyone can tell you what has happened in the past. keith law is commenting that rodriguez is going to be much less of an asset the rest of the way than edmonds, and he is right. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not arguing that point. I'm arguing the fact that Rodriguez is less of an asset than Edmonds does not mean that Rodriguez is "so bad" as Law stated. |

Good win tonight. Izzy a nightmare as usual. My selective memory says "yet another 9th inning screwup by Rolen".
The team is clearly going to make the playoffs in the pathetic NL. However, there are just too many holes to try and fix. I am officially hoping we do nothing at the break unless it comes essentially for free. No moving Reyes or Wainwright. If we get lucky in the playoffs, we get lucky, but no one move is going to make this team a favorite over either the Mets or the AL representative. Keep the kids, retool in the offseason, and keep the dry powder so we can pick and choose what to do when all our starters become free agents at the end of this year. |

No moving Reyes or Wainwright [/ QUOTE ] I think this goes without saying. I like the looks of Carpenter, Wainwright, and Reyes all in the starting rotation next year. That has the potential to be the best top three starters the Cards have had in a while. |

obviously the cards should not move reyes or wainwright, but though they have the top-level talent of a championship team for the next couple of years, they are going to be very short in supporting cast unless jocketty makes a bunch of moves before opening day '07.
a trade for abreu or some player they can re-sign at less than market value (the cards' style) makes a lot of sense. and a catcher or second baseman who can hit a lick would help their chances a ton once they reach the playoffs this year. |

a trade for abreu or some player they can re-sign at less than market value [/ QUOTE ] Is this the case for Abreu? I was under the impression that signing Abreu is going to be a very expensive proposition for whatever team chooses to do so. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, these were meant to be separate categories (abreu vs. players that can be signed cheaply). although it's possible that the cardinals could negotiate a different extension than simply exercising his option. |

So how many starts does Weaver get before Jocketty/LaRussa/Duncan figure out that his 6+ ERA in Anaheim wasn't a fluke??
