dude, Lita sucks. I saw two or three times where he tries to go alone or force something when he had one or two players open for better options. Seems like he is out hunting for his own goals.

so have you seen all 3 games or just 1? yesterday was his worst performance imo. from what i saw the other day wayne rooney sucks. sell him...

rj

[/ QUOTE ] distinct difference, Rooney looks fatigued and out of synch, Lita looks like he doesn't know he has teamates. I will have to watch more Reading games( if possible) to see if my early impression holds true.

Since there's no Serie A thread and it's kinda relevant here (and I know it came up in a past thread)...

EPL teams: 115 games, 125 goals scored, 1.09 goals/game.
Serie A teams: 80 games, 102 goals scored, 1.28 goals/game.

Of course, having 4 different matches already with 6+ goals in them will help with that.

Is this because of a lack of parity in Serie A? It has the reputation of being a low scoring league so this surprises me. But a couple of lopsided results could schew the results. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the season.

I am wondering how much the World Cup is effecting players in the EPL. Seems like a ton of players came back tired.

This is almost totally OT, but with all the talk about a potential on-line gambling ban in the US, it was so refreshing to not only see an ad for betfair.com during an EPL game, but to actually have live odds for the game listed in the ad, encouraging people watching to be on who will win the (then-tied) game.

The scoring last season was in Serie A's favor as well. Milan alone scored 85 goals, and Juventus (71), Roma (70), and Inter (68) scored a lot too. To compare, the top four EPL teams were Chelsea and Man U with 72, Arsenal with 68, and Liverpool with 57. Overall, EPL teams in 2005-06 scored 944 goals compared to 991 in Serie A.

Either way, Portsmouth-Bolton is starting. Go Portsmouth!

very strange, this could mean a few things. A.)Serie A has more scoring, B.) The top teams in Serie A are much better than the bottom teams, C.) EPL is a defensive league or D.) EPL has better overall teams. Or maybe its caused by some other factors.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the causes of it are, but I do think it's interesting.

In other news, Portsmouth has looked very good against Bolton but conceded their first goal of the season.

Bolton are a horrible team to play against - I think you have to be more concerned with matching their work rate rather than just playing the better football.

its a very recent thing that this has been happening. A couple of years ago the Bundesliga had a big goal scoring spike for a couple of seasons and then it went back to where it had traditionally been. I don't know why the spike has happened in serieA lately, but for a long time it had been around 2.3 goals a game or something like that
