Phils get Iguchi for Dubee - great trade. He's having a bit of a down year but is still way better than Nunez (or Thurston), and we gave up nothing.

[/ QUOTE ]
I thought they traded the pitching coach at first.

What do those hacks at BP know. Didn't realize playoff odds were even on BP (they really need to make the site more navigable)

Without Utley the season is over.

[/ QUOTE ]
I thought that at first too. Do you really think the Mets or Braves are that great???

[/ QUOTE ]

They're not that great, but the Phillies, save for one day out of every five, are entirely dependent upon their offense, and Utley was the centerpiece of their offense.

He's had an MVP type season up to this point and they're still third in the division. I just can't see how losing him for the next month+ can do anything but hurt their chances.

Obviously losing Utley is a blow. However, as great as he is, Chase is probably only worth 7 or 8 wins over the course of a season (someone can correct this if it's a little off but I think that this is right from memory) over a player like Iguchi. (ex. phillies would be 88-74 w/ utley and 81-81 w/ Iguchi all season). So losing Utley for a month costs the Phillies only about one game on average.

With some positive variance over the next month the Phils could be fine....baseball is a TON of variance. To say that this one injury "eliminates" the Phillies is beyond ridiculous.

It was a nice bunt but with Victorino on second it doesn't make much sense to me.
