Re: ** WSOP ME, FT Sweat, Tuesday, July 17 **
I'm sure Tuan has a plan, but it isn't very good. He's only won 4 of 21 pots heads up. Certainly even casual players know that whether they are card dead or not, their opponents are still missing the flops 2/3rds of the time.
Raise preflop and c-bet a flop for once. Granted Yang likes to float in position, but he doesn't seem to call with nothing out of position. That's why repeated folding on the button when you're shortstacked is criminal in HU play, regardless of cards. It's amazing to me that he's a heads-up expert. He seems to have fallen in love with waiting for a big hand and hoping to get it in as a big favorite, but his stack can't hurt Yang without a few double ups. Does anyone know, after the tourney is over, will there be any place to see all the hands with the hole cards? |

I would be much more inclined to believe some type of funny business is going on as opposed to believing a high stakes HU specialist (LHE or not) with an incredible winning record would take this approach HU.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I read an earlier post that during a recent break no one talked to each other. Is it possible a deal was made long before this? [/ QUOTE ] Then why play foldalotz? [/ QUOTE ] The deal would be to throw the tourney for Yang in exchange for some money. [/ QUOTE ] Then make dumb shoves with 32o. At least that would be somewhat justifiable given how far he's behind and how HU has gone thus far. [/ QUOTE ] What if Yang lost the flips? Then he would lose out on endorsement deals. Folding is much safer for Yang. I'm not saying that this has occurred, but it would explain this odd behavior. |

Re: ** WSOP ME, FT Sweat, Tuesday, July 17 **
Following Greg's tournament progress back in 2004 was really something special.
The boom had taken off in the fall of 2003 when Moneymaker's win was aired on ESPN. I remember reading that the expectation for the 2004 WSOP was for 1,000 to 1,500 players in the Main Event. The 2,500+ players blew everyone away and Binion's Horseshoe was a madhouse. I don't even remember much discussion of the 2003 WSOP on the forums. But, Greg (as a very regular 2+2 poster) got the chip lead early in the 2004 tournament and everyone started paying attention. Much moreso than when Doug Kim and Hevad Khan final tabled in the past couple years, the whole forum seemed to know Greg. He had been around since the beginning of 2+2 in 1997. It really felt like one of us (just regular ol' players) was playing for the World Championship. |

Ahhhhh 2004. The good old days
Poker on the rise. ME FT with Raymer, Harrington, Williams, Arieh. Raymer Wins. 2+2 booms. Nobody understands ICM or proper SNG strategy. So much money so easy. Rakeback is a big secret but those who know make $$$$$$$$. 5x Bonuses everywhere. No silly UIGEA. 4 tables meant you were a crazy multitabler. ZOMG but how can you play right on 4 tables!!!! We didn't really know what we had. |
