The latest albums I've picked up recently that I dig are Lily Allen (Alright, Still) and Peter Bjorn & John (Writer's Block). I really like Lily Allen in particular-- very, very pop, but very good and with a pull-no-punches sense of humor.

I haven't listened to Peter Bjorn & John as much, but so far I dig it, and I really like "Let's Call It Off" (which may or may not be the single-- I heard it on Sirius).

Anyone else have any opinion on either of these?

Wow. Where the eff was I last year. Listening to PB&J now and halfway through it's just tremendous. One of the best I've listened to for a long time. It sounds at once familiar and original.

Its awesome, but you'll be less impressed in like 11 days. Amsterdam still gets play from me though.

All,

Just got back from Cat Power & Dirty Delta Blues at the Fillmore. Wow. What a show.

I saw her a couple years ago at a small club here, Bimbo's, and she sounded awesome, but played the whole set sitting down and not really looking at the audience w/ virtually no lighting on the stage.

This time the stage lighting was still pretty low, but she was walking back and forth, dancing really cute - like a sorta awkward indie rock girl dancing at a show. Sometimes adding in a little cute air guitar and keyboard.

The first really amazing song she did was Tracks of My Tears. Wow. Just incredible. Here's one I found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vcQCFSsKFw

Similar, but tonight's version was way more intense.

The general vibe of the show was very soulful and blues natured, sometimes with a Joni Mitchell type feel, sometimes with more of a Janis Joplin type feel, and sometimes with almost a gospel-ish blues vibe.

Next highlight was Satisfaction. I have never seen that level of energy from her. Really belting it out a lot. Incredible vocals and performance.

Only minor disappointment was Lived in Bars - sounded great, but gave a pretty short performance.

A number of covers late, John Lee Hooker, Joni Mitchell, and a couple I didn't recognize. The highlight for me was Crazy. Really great version. Here are some on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...;search=Search

Played for about 1hr 40m straight with about a 1 minute break before encore. A really amazing show.

K. I saw Animal Collective last night in a venue with about 100 people. They only played for an hour and a half, which is too bad, because it was the greatest thing I've ever seen,

El D,

Awesome!
I saw her this summer in Boston with Dirty Delta Blues and she was fantastic. Basically the same vibe as you described. Only complaint was I wish she'd have fleshed out her Greatest songs more. I freakin love that album.

She's really come around on her stage presence and confidence during sobriety I think.

Guys,

This thread is ridiculously long. Someone should start a Volume 2 of this thread. Put a link to this thread in that OP.
