but I also think that the Daily show is in decline.

the daily show has been in decline since jon stewart took over as host

This is one of the more ridiculous things that I've seen posted in OOT. The only thing Kilborn's show had over Stewart's was Five Questions. Besides that, everything else is far better on Stewart's show.

FWIW, I think that the Daily Show is a more consistant show than TCR, but when TCR is on point it's funnier.

You're wrong. I used to love the show. Then it changed. Go back and watch some shows from ca. 2000 and compare them to now. If you don't realize it is a Bush-bashing machine, then you need to step back and re-evaluate. The show was much better years ago when it didn't take itself so seriously.

This is partisan whining at it's best(and most embarassing).

I'm with you. TCR is very funny and the Daily Show is often the same joke/gag.

DS lost quite a bit from Colbert and Carell leaving (actually, a heckuva lot), haven't really watched much of the Colbert Report, the guy can come up with absolute gold like he did on the DS, but the Colbert had a lot of suckage at times.

I hate W. has much as the next guy but his bashing of him is a little overdone. If this question was asked two weeks ago I would have said that the Daily Show is better, but now I would say Colbert's is better. The segment where they interview a Rep. is hillarious and very well done.

Colbert is now the better show.

It wasnt for the first 2 weeks of its run though.

Also, there are a very large number of running gags that many wouldnt get if they didnt watch quite regularily.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with this. I think it took Colbert a while to get used to being the host and to get the character down, he made miscues in the first 5 or so shows which would totally throw off the rhythm of the show. There are also running jokes which alone seem weird and random but in context are pretty funny. IMO TDS has declined in the last year or so, it lost its best correspondents. I think TDS in its golden age > TCR, but right now TCR > TDS.

The Colbert Repoir sucks. Colbert is only funny when he has 5 minute segments on The Daily Show like he use to. Give him a half hour, and his suckiness is revealed.

[/ QUOTE ]

wow, i cant believe i used to think this...colbert's show is far and away better than the daily show.

IMO the Colbert Report has passed the Daily Show. Colbert's interviews are simply better than Stewart's. The Word has to be one of the best segments of both shows. I think what helps Colbert is that he basically does the show by himself. The DS relies on extra reporters and sometimes the show is only as strong as they are; which sometimes is pretty weak. With that said, Colbert does have some flat moments but the rest of the show simply make up for it.
