Sorry to hijack, but I'm getting a digital camera also. I don't plan on spending much more than $300.

Someone recommended me the Coolpix L1 Digital Camera Nikon Coolpix L1. Can someone tell me if this is a good buy?

I was also considering theHP Photosmart R717 based on the PC world article posted earlier.

For a noob who has no desire to become a good photographer what would you suggest?

Edit: fix url

Camera snobs are worse than audio snobs.

"B&H: the Professional's Source"

OP = noob.

Relax, jerkoff.

He can shop 47th Street Photo when he grows into it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Who cares about "The professionals source..."?? (sounds like you do though)...

They have the best prices, best availability, best support, best return policy and, if you do not live in NY, the best price since you will not be paying sales tax.

You: "Can I speak to a manager?"
B&H: "Sure, one minute Sir..."

You: "Can I speak to a manager?"
Ritz/Wolf: "Uh huh....I am the manager dude!"

[/ QUOTE ]

Two things they do not have:

1. Locations in Dallas.

2. Carbon units, aka people, OP can lean on until he gets his legs under him. B&H will take his order and ship his product. That's it. For some folks, that's enough. For others, an interested human makes a big difference.

CW,

What are some good SLR's then? Any links? Just curious...this isn't to say I won't buy a PHD.

I'd look at the d50
-as basic as an slr can be, great pricing, very nice camera.
-it has a lot of auto features and functions OK as a P&S, but still has the needed fully manual modes.

Actually, Nikon still sells fully manual camera bodies ( like this one). That said, I have no idea why a person who knows nothing about cameras should be using a fully manual camera.

He needs something that can be fully automatic (so that he can just point and shoot), but with the flexibility to go fully manual. Any of the digital SLRs recommended here will fit that bill.
