Re: Help Me Settle an Argument
This is the most lopsided poll I have ever seen. I realize that the proportional method is winning in replies, but wow.
This alone shows how stingy/lame your roommate is... |

Re: Help Me Settle an Argument
is this the first time in the history of OOT that after 63 votes the answer is 100%?
this isn't even close. Your flatmate is the worst negotiator of all time. to even reduce the rent by $33/person is a shaft. omfg are all flatmates except the ones i live with retarded. at this rate i should struggle to live with those i have already "chosen" because they wouldn't fight for this sh*t. |

Re: Help Me Settle an Argument
[ QUOTE ]
the correct answer is (410/1000) = (x/900) You pay x, they pay the rest split evenly. but whatever, $33 is close enough. [/ QUOTE ] No way! It's not that simple. You bid $410 specifically. You did not bid 41% of the rent. The deal was that you pay $410 and they split the rest. You could have made any number of other arrangements but you chose that one. If I were you, I'd argue that if the landlord made a mistake the other direction and rent was actually $1100 would your roommate be willing to pick up the extra $50 or would he expect to only pay $33? It's your agreement and you can modify it however you want. And since you already have one roommate on your side, you may as well try to get the other guy with whatever logic you think will work. So long as everyone agrees and there is no duress or financial hardship, do what you will. When I had roomies, we always split the rent equally regardless of room size and negotiated other perks like parking or chores. Or we rotated rooms each semester. Or I was the landlord and I made the rules. You might want to offer $33 plus covered parking or something. |

[ QUOTE ] He states that if I didn't want to pay $410 for the room, then I shouldn't have bid that... [/ QUOTE ] Tell him you wouldn't have bid $410 if you had known the total monthly rent bill would be $900 rather than $1000. [/ QUOTE ] But wait, that makes too much sense for someone as dumb as his roomate. |

Re: Help Me Settle an Argument
Point out to your roommate that new [censored] has come light. Explain that there are a lot of ins, a lot of outs, a lot of what-have-yous, then pee on his rug.
