[ QUOTE ] If returning it and demanding a new one is the obvious play, I need some sort of plan. [/ QUOTE ] A plan? OK I'll bite. Step 1: Go back to the store with the TV Step 2: Return the TV [ QUOTE ] I'm afraid that stores deal with people trying to get away with this all the time, and are therefore on the look out for scams like this. [/ QUOTE ] First of all, no, because most people don't drop their TVs immediately after purchasing them. Second of all, they don't care anyway, because they're going to have arrangements with the manufacturer that allows them to send back equipment like this and get a new one in return. The store isn't taking a loss on this. The ability to do things like this is one of the reasons people still buy from reputable B&M stores instead of purchasing everything at cost from some shady website, take advantage of it. [/ QUOTE ] I havnt even finished reading this whole thread yet but this is crap. I work as Asset Protection for a very large company and alot of times we take hits on this stuff. There is only a handful of reasons we're going to make our money back off this, in this situation we could probably fake it out to bad shipping etc and get it done but your wrong to assume anything returned in bad/broken/used condition doesn't result in the a loss for the store, it's just usually not worth the trouble to tell some idoit that no they can't return their air conditoner now that it's fall and they need a heater instead. As it is your flipping a coin at my store on returning that TV as it's such a low gross item we're not taking it back if we don't think your gonna spend enough to cover our loss or that we can get it shipped back but then again we don't like shrink and might be more hardcore about losses like this then average joe store. |

I'm glad this thread at least has some argumentative value, from an ethical standpoint. [/ QUOTE ] no it doesn't. How can a case be made that lying to them and getting a new tv is ethical? They did everything right. The tv crack is your fault. What ethics justify this? On the other hand, if you wanna say to yourself "Ok, I'm basically not an ethical person, but I don't care", then we don't have an argument. I can't convince you and you can't convince me. |

how is it that every time we have a thread about a cashier giving too much change, everyone says you should give it back, and yet now everyone is saying to do the wrong thing? Has OOT changed, or is something else going on?

I absolutely love costco and go there about 2 times a week (it is 60 seconds from my house in Vegas). That being said, I assure you they will take it back if you say it was damaged when you unpacked it and won't give you a hassle. You don't need to freak out about that part at all.
But I agree with snowball that it is incredible unethical to do so. Especially considering it is just cosmetic damage and they don't sell damaged stuff at a discount like say Best Buy does. Just keep it and not be a scumbag. |
