the prize was 1mil pounds, not euros.

Yeah, but in USD that's even better, as I think the exchange rate would make the $1.7 Million USD

[/ QUOTE ]

closer to 2 mill even, various finance sites report it as just under, some as just over.

Annie Duke won 2 mill even back in 2004.

She won it all! How sick is that?. Youngest bracelet winner ever. She won with a set of sevens versus the other guys two pair.

Congrats Annette!!

Cardplayer says she won a 180-person SNG without looking at her cards. Does anyone know the details of this (buy-in, etc.)?

er - Annette is Norwegian (from Stavanger I think) and the tourney was held in London- why would US taxes enter into it?

I don't think that the UK would deduct tax from another EU national's winnings (as UK citizens would pay no tax on winnings anyway) - whether she has to pay tax on the winnings in Norway is something our Norwegian 2+2'ers will havw to comment on.

GG Annette! Really great for poker (and needed after the Absolute superaccount debacle)

Yeah, thanks.

The WSOPE in England with some US players situation just got me to thinking about the upcoming April 2008 proposed withholding on tournament winnings in excess of $5k profits.

If England doesn't withhold/report, it may make the European circuit more cash flow attractive to US players than some US circuit.

Best wishes Annette

A lot of countries don't tax gambling winnings or don't tax winnings by amateurs.

If those new rules go into effect, it will be devastating for legal live mid to high buyin tournaments in the US.
