Re: Sequels make us forget how great the originals were
[ QUOTE ]
What I'm saying is that the whole movie is much more of an introduction than a complete story. What really happens in the movie? Neo finds out who he is. The two sequels are much more plot-driven. [/ QUOTE ] By that standard, the Godfather didn't have a story--it was just Michael finding out who he is. |

On the other hand, some sequels to great films are just forgotten. What is different about them? People can discuss Chinatown all day without having to add disclaimers about The Two Jakes. Does that indicate something about the films, or is it just variance?

Re: Sequels make us forget how great the originals were
Am I alone in thinking that the second Matrix was pretty solid? Yes a bit of a let down after the first one, but that's like saying that film x was a let down after Pulp Fiction - the original was paradigm shifting. The third one is irredeemably bad however, and the fact that it came so soon after the second probably drags Reloaded down more than it should on it's own merits.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, the jerkstore just called and they're all out of you. [/ QUOTE ] This is like the meanest series of posts I've ever seen in this forum. I'm tempted to ban you both for 15 seconds each for tone. Also, I always much preferred Godfather I to II, although it seems like in the court of public opinion they're equally beloved. Dunno, as much as I like De Niro that whole Vito Corleone backstory wasn't interesting to me. Maybe it just took too long to build up to violence for my liking. |

Also, sequels that nobody saw don't count, either. I don't know anyone who's seen "The Two Jakes". I haven't--then again, I hadn't seen "Chinatown" until recently, so my opinion doesn't count. |

Oh, and I like Romero's zombie flick follow up where everyone was in the shopping center better than the original -- think that was Day of the Dead. [/ QUOTE ] Dawn of the Dead. |
