Re: Dealer Tokes = Big $?
[ QUOTE ]
I was just curious about how much dealers make and how that relates to how much money they lose playing. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know how much dealers make, but from what I see, it looks like they get paid well, even in establishments that pool tips. Also I know a lot of degenerate poker players/gamblers and they are very resourceful people. Sometimes they seem to make money appear just so they can throw it away (the ones I know). Furthermore, you say this kid is 18 and you're worried about his bills getting paid. Do you know his living situation, maybe he doesn't have any bills and all his income is disposable. When I was 18 I wasn't supporting myself. Lastly, LaCenter Casino's are SUPER juicy, don't let the word get out. |

Re: Dealer Tokes = Big $?
I've heard Canterbury dealers make in the $220 range, assuming a full shift with breaks ever 4 or 5 downs. Of course, they must log EVERY dollar earned (tips go in a locked box the dealer carries from table to table), so the tax burden may be steeper than where logging is not required.
Note: this is in theory only. I assume that all dealers are entirely truthful with the IRS about tips, even where there is the ability to be less so. |

And coming on here and flat out asking someone how much they make for a living is kinda rude. [/ QUOTE ] If your name is Dealers, you probably have grounds to take offense. Otherwise, it's a generic question. You're free to answer or not. But it's funny to answer the question and then lecture someone on how out-of-bounds it was. If you don't want to answer, then don't. Anyone can do the math anyway, if their assumptions are valid. |

Re: Dealer Tokes = Big $?
From my experience I've found that what dealers makes is pretty dependant on the cardroom and clientel. I know of a few cardrooms in WA where the night shift dealers are routinely making 300-500 / night and I know rooms where breaking 100 on day shift is a good day. It also depends on the dealers relationship with the regulars, because it can make a huge difference. FWIW I didn't make much when I started but after I became friends with the regulars my earnings skyrocketed.

I ask, because i know a number of very good dealers from that area who have since left to work in AZ. It USED to be that good, years ago, but has since plumeted. They keep in contact with a lot of dealers back there, and there isnt such money being made these days. |
