Forgot to mention something. Even though NT!'s points are valid, that still doesn't change the fact that AIDS is indeed 100% preventable. Okay - no more threadjacking from me...

[/ QUOTE ]

100%? I can think of quite a few ways that someone could get AIDS without willingly doing something "risky".

Just wanted to point out that the kids aren't always terminal. The criteria is life threatening disease. I have two friends whose children participated in this program and their kids are alive and well many years after the MAW people did their thing.

Both families loved the program. It was a nice break for the whole family, especially for the siblings of the sick children. If you've ever taken care of a seriously ill loved one, then you'll understand that a break from it all can be wonderful.

One of the kids who was (allegedly) molested by Michael Jackson had met him through the "Make a Wish" foundation. Apparently it was his wish to spend a day with Jacko in Neverland. He ended up (allegedly) getting a little more than he bargained for.

The kid is still alive today, and there were a few accusations from MJ's side that the kid was never really terminally sick to begin with, but was in cahoots with his mother to frame Michael.

It does seem a little odd that a 12 year old kid would want to spend time with Michael Jackson...or would even know who he is for that matter.

Hopeless,

Maybe his mom heard that boys' pants were half off at Neverland Ranch and misunderstood what that meant.

If someone told me a poster in OOT had started a thread about finding the Make a Wish Foundation repulsive, cbloom would have been my first guess.

wow im a prick to people in general and couldnt give a crap when i see a homeless person in the street but to me there is nothing worse than seeing some innocent little kid have to go to something like a terminal disease
I think the is a great organization and wish that the OP had to change places with an 8 year old with cancer

What's so adolescent about it? I think OP raises a perfectly legitimate point. That you don't agree with it doesn't make it immature or dumb.
