It was just a disappointing episode all around. They treat restaurant wars like it's a minor climax of the season, but then completely deflate the episode by deciding not to eliminate anybody. And they're going to just do the whole thing over again? Mulligans are not exciting.

In a contest like this, if the result of a challenge is that the judges don't feel like they can fairly eliminate just one person, that's just a sign that the format of the challenge sucks. If they aren't committed to being willing to eliminate Dale or Brian for their crappy performance in non-chef roles, then those shouldn't be available roles in a challenge.

I think it's silly that after someone was eliminated in season one for spending all his time in the front of the house, now it's basically a requirement that someone do so.

Also, just occurred to me - the oyster dish no one liked was probably Brian's? Just another reason for him to be eliminated...

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it was exactly the same dish he made for the drunken food fest - and the judges thought it was great then.

[/ QUOTE ]

My guess is that that time he had a better ratio of watermellon slurpee to oyster and that this time they drowned it.

Brian volunteered to be the front man. Picking Brian was CJ's big screw up. If he'd have picked Dale there wouldn't be a part 2.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe, but then the scented candles would have wound up in restaurant Angel. Casey also wanted to get something fragrant, it was Brian that shot that idea down.

I just can't get over the fact that Dale thought scented candles would be a good idea, and that Hung just enthusiastically agreed.

BTW the real question is whether Tre is gay (?)

[/ QUOTE ]

Isn't this question that powers all shows?

[/ QUOTE ]

For homophobes, yes.

Hung has definitely not impressed much lately after his bright start. IMHO he has the best pure technical chops of any of the chefs, by far actually, but he isn't doing a very good job of putting together dishes that work well and just taste good, he also doesn't take criticism and doesn't work well in a team. At the moment he doesn't seem to be a favorite.

CJ and Tre are the only ones I would actually want to hire to work in my restaurant.

[/ QUOTE ]

It looks like Hung has toned down a bit as far as condescention. He seems to be taking criticism a little better in the last couple shows.

I'd hire Sara N or Camille. I don't care if they could cook.

So far, I think Tre is the best overall. I think if Hung puts it together, those 2 will be in the final.

No guy should be thrown out of a chef competition for being a poor waiter.

It's a screwed competition because half of each team can be eliminated without even cooking anything. Really, really terrible challenge.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is my main problem with this type of challenge also.

Remember that Brian was the frontman in the more partying, upbeat roach coach challenge outside the nightclub in the previous episode. CJ was his competing frontman there, and probably was wowed by Brian's energy and ability to work the crowd. So when Brian said he wanted to do something sorta similar twice in a row, CJ choosing Brian probably seemed a pretty natural choice and good idea.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought of that too.

It still blows to be on the block in a cooking show because of having to be 'front' house. Every season, no one does well in front of the house. It's almost a garauntee that you'll be on the block.
