I'wasn't able to find any clips, but there were many memorable late 80s/early 90s Harry Carry/Steve Stone exchanges while calling Cubs games for WGN. Stone was (and is) a great play-by-play guy, and his attempts to keep the focus on the game during one of Caray's famous non-sequitirs (like how good the ribs he had last night for dinner were) during pivotal moments were classic.

From Wikipedia:

In 1987 the Cubs had Ryne Sandberg, Jim Sundberg, and Scott Sanderson on the roster. Caray often confused these names and it was not uncommon for him to refer to "Jim Sandberg", "Ryne Sanderson", or "Scott Sundberg."

I'm originally from Chicago, and i am a die hard White Sox Fan... but even i'll admit that Steve Stone was probably the best play by play guy i have ever heard. The Cubs screwed up firing him and Chip.

Marino screws up, freaks out

Nice. I had never seen that before and I was actually quite uncomfortable watching it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why did he freak out? Because he sort of bumbled a word? I kinda don't get why he snapped...

[/ QUOTE ]

I have no clue. The best part is when he hits the table the second time.

I hate Jim Rome. They had his radio show on in Chicago when i still lived there and i couldn't make it 20 minutes listening to him rant on and on.

Billy Packer really [censored] out on that one...

drumroll please for Imus clip

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Packer said by "[censored] out," he meant the Dictionary.com definition, "to tire or weary by labor; exhaust."

"The term has nothing to do with sexuality," Packer said. "I think he is the most eligible bachelor. It's about a guy too lazy to get the work. ... I can assure you I will use that phrase again and I won't think twice about it. My meaning is genuine."

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is a case of old people talking different.

Recent Reds broadcast with Tom Brennaman doing the play by play. For whatever reason they had a Korean war vet in the booth. He had apparently been wounded in battle and received a purple heart.

Tom Brennaman: So which President presented you with the medal.

*crickets chirping*

Korean war hero: ummm...None of them

Tom Brennaman: I don't mean which one actually gave you the medal but who was in office at the time

*more crickets chirping*

Korean war veteran: ummm...Eisenhower.

I like Tom Brennaman but he has a rather large ego so this was great. He [censored] it up twice.
