Okay, before I opened the thread I thought that someone didn't get enough speed going off the first ramp and slammed into the bads after the jump. I didn't think he landed on the wood part. Man, that looked gruesome.

Also, how good of a sense of balance does he have? It looked like he would have face-planted if he didn't twist around at the last second. This guy deserves credit just for not panicking.

Here it looks like he didnt really get in a good position during impact though.

[/ QUOTE ]I didn't want to get all Bill Nye the Science Guy when everyone was saying he nailed the landing, but I agree. It looks like he was trying to turn sideways and instead got caught facing backwards as he landed. He lands on his feet then slams onto his tailbone, then it looks like his head is bent way back as it hits.

My understanding is that you want to roll as you land: feet, legs, hips, arms, shoulders. Not feet, ass, head.

Either way, it's a frickin' miracle he's relatively OK. Once the adrenaline wore off I'm sure he was feeling it.

at least with ski jumping and ski tricks (mostly) you are landing on a sloped decline which helps a lot with falls

[/ QUOTE ]

yes, the slope makes a huge difference. though he landed close to the flat, you can bet that he saved himself from much more serious injuries by sort of landing on the transition. he's still moving with decent velocity after he lands, which shows that his body didn''t absorb all of the impact. had he landed flat he'd be pretty [censored] up.

[ QUOTE ]
and in the halfpipe you are wearing a board or skis which can absorb a lot of the contact.

uhh... no

Hia body goes through some contortions on that impact that no body should ever go through.

The feeling in your stomach, when he was at the top of that fall must have been the most intense thing ever.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriously. I've never done anything like that obv, but I remember from various biking/sledding jumps and accidents as a kid that the moment when you hit the apex and realize "wow, I'm about to get pwned by gravity" is like the worst feeling ever.
