I've heard mathematics of poker is decent.

[/ QUOTE ]I liked the beginning of the book (up to first half of of part III), but for the end of part III I didn't feel like following all the equations and just read the conclusions. Really applying the math to real-world scenarios is a lot of work and I'm not ready to do it yet.

I wonder if guys like aba are actually sometimes taking a pen and a paper and calculating their and their opponents optimal bluffing frequencies and so forth or it's all more subconscious and intuition/talent based.

I didn't read whole thread but I've been pondering about the same thing lately.

I usually bet the same when going for value, and then deviate +/- ~20% from that when I'm bluffing. An extremely observant person might pick up on that.

So maybe I'll bet 2/3 pot on turn for value and 5/10 or 3/4 when bluffing...kind of randomized between the two bluff bets.

IDK if it costs me money to bet x% more or x% less because that x% may not correlate to a fold or call in a linear fashion for the other player...(they think im getting sneaky or something)

I think we all overthing this stuff anyway...nobody pays attention but us.

i've got to go head out to pub very soon and away this weekend, but wanted to post thanks for all the above replies to i havent been able to reply to, ill do that on monday/tuesday.

my general impression is that it is definitely worth sitting down with paper and pen and working out an appropriate bluff:real hand ratio when making different plays (check raise, lead turn; bet call raise, lead turn etc etc) against different groups of opponents.

and dlizzle is right, i havent played on party in over a year.

gl all and have a good weekend.
