He is a great ball player, thats for sure. Maybe the greatest power hitter of all time. Certainly that I ever got to see.

He is also a guy who cheated through the use of illegal steriods, lied to a grand jury and the public repeatedly, pulled the race card when confronted with it, and has been a prick to his teammates, the fans, and the media.

He can have the record. but I don't see any reason why we should be putting a lying, cheating prick up on a pedestal. He does not belong in the Hall of Fame. That's for heroes.

Oh I agree - it's totally results-oriented, and I thought the Schmidt signing was one of the best deals of the offseason.

However, even THAT can't really be assigned to Neanderthal Ned - I mean, Schmidt was handed to him on a platter, and he wasn't bidding against anyone else (although maybe you credit him for hiring Stan Conte, I guess) . . .

Everything else though, sketchy - he spent most of April and May with 3/8ths of his best lineup playing in Vegas every day, FFS. I just hope he [censored] over Logan White so the Sox can make him some ridiculous deal like "Vice President/Overlord of Drafts"
