SSHE has a chapter on playing overcards. The advice is that
betting overcards depends on the flop. With a flop like this
(little flush or straight draws) betting seems fine to me.
Also, you have a lot of outs. 3 aces and 3 kinds over two
cards (turn, river). That's 3.14:1 to make top pair by the
river (4.88:1 by the turn). If more than three callers EV
is positive, I think. Also, SSHE says "if you think you will
call a bet in a passive field, you might as well bet).

I think a bet, with the preflop bet, tells your table that
you have a strong hand. Another option is to check and
hope that the button raises, and then check-raise, making
people call two bets.

Even though we don't have anything but A high at the moment, if we check here it is saying "I don't have squat" On the udder hand, some hands already have odds to see the turn for a 3 outer. A flop might get some to fold(right or wrong)and it might get some to call(right or wrong) but 8 handed here in the SB with a 2 flush out on the board and possibly an OE or gut draw, I vote for checking this one.

With this many people and the size of the pot I would be inclined to c/c 1 bet as NOBODY is folding for 1 bet.

Peace,

I bet because I'm always calling one bet with my multiple weak draws; often won't be raised by top pair at 3/6; make some players that I want out of the pot fold -- JT, [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]s, small PPs; and, although I'd actually raise preflop and check the flop with a much wider range than AK, in the view of most live players a check here turns my hand face-up and means AK. Also, because I'm a bet-tard. Maybe not enough correct reasons here.

OK, so I bet, 3 calls, 2 folds, and CO, who had posted there after changing seats to "change his luck" raises. BN folds and it's back to me. Easy call, or spend extra bets in a big pot to try to drive players out and increase my equity?
