I believe this was in the 1980s. He talked about it in a recent interview, in Cardplayer I think. |

Assuming you are not trolling....he is just a normal person and plays mid limit holdem in Vegas where he lives. I've played with him a few times over the past year at Bellagio $15-30. FWIW, I've also met smoothcall and they are two different people. He has a couple small tournament cashes this year:

Weren't carson and all them going to start a moderated newsgroup? I kind of like the simple usenet format but those days are over forum software even as clunky as 2p2 is much better. Russ G. posts are still fun to read. [/ QUOTE ] No. They tried a couple of times. Carson was 100% against it. They all wanted their spam, porn, trolls, flame wars, profanity and all of the off-topic nonsense to not go away. So it didn't pass. Now they have what they wished for. Total garbage. Russ G's unsubstantiated lies and trolling are a big part of the reason for it's downfall. RGP is a lot easier to read than this if you have a good newsreader. |

Speaking of old school, anyone know what ever happened to Vince Lepore? I went on 2p2 hiatus a while back, and I just realized he never posts anymore. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty sure he's banned. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think he trolled the 'Special Sklansky Forum' under username Leaponthis about half a year ago, then got banned, but presumably not by DS himself. |

Re: Is Rec.Gambling.Poker still worth reading?
It's not hard to pin down when RGP started to decline. It was July 08, 1997 at 2:17pm PDT.
RGP was the only serious place to discuss poker online back in the mid-90s. When Mason started www.twoplustwo.com, he was told that the forum (singular then) would never work. It couldn't compete with RGP. Basically, RGP had a 95-99% market share and a start-up wasn't supposed to have any chance. By the time I started reading and posting here in the summer of 2001, 2+2 had overtaken RGP. But, RGP still had plenty of credibility. It was very common for posters to read and post on both sites. Mason and David often posted on RGP then. In fact, David seemed to post more on RGP than here well into 2002. When the poker boom hit in 2003, RGP was in serious decline and it was obvious it had no future. Some of the most popular posters over there such as Roy Cooke, Mike Caro, and Daniel Negreanu would quickly leave to start their own forums. I never cared for RGP and didn't make more than two dozen posters there. But, I'm sure many old time poker folks miss the golden days of RGP. |
