two tall nice trees in your yard would increase your house value by much more than 4.5k i would imagine. people like shady yards. depends how much the house is worth otherwise obviously.

During the last "winter" here in Az. it got down to the low 20's for 3 days in a row and that about killed every Ficus in the metro-Phoenix area. I spent $600 on my ficus in the front yard and a couple hundred for a few in the backyard and they all bit the big one. I just spent friggin' $400 for a puny (like maybe 5' tall) Brazilian Pepper to replace the dead front-yard ficus.

Trees here in Az. are bank.

Yeah i have a ficus with an 8-9 inch calipered trunk that was hit with the freeze over the winter here. I Had an arborist come in an tell me it would be $600 to trim down all the deadwood, but that it would come back. He showed me how to check for deadwood and how to cut( i told him i was curious)
He left and 30 minutes with a chinsaw and i had it trimmed up perfectly.
Now it looks like a house ficus with a giant trunk. But that is the way they grow back.

So i had an idea. The trunk is still very viable. I am going to graft several large grapefruit branches on to the trunk and see if they take.
I have been told by a guy i work with that this can work. His father used to graft branches from sevrl different species of plums/cherry/pears on to on piece of root stock, and they flourished.

One of my friends had some trees cleared from his property and got paid close to 100k. His brother owns a big landscaping company so he probably knew how to go about it.
I do know that in general it is pretty expensive to have trees removed. Maybe it comes down to how valuable, if at all, what you're having removed is worth or something(and if you know it.)

It sounds like they were trying to pull a fast one on you though. I'd imagine a few huge oaks are worth more than 4500 at the mill.

Actually I am selling it rather than renting it out. Should I have a "tree included" price?
