Trip report, sorta:

Went to Fossil in person this weekend to check out their glasses. I can't buy this sort of thing online because I need to try it on. Also, El D, I appreciate the Macy's tip but I don't have time to wait for a coupon. I need these glasses before I head out on a long trip overseas.

There were maybe one pair of Fossil glasses that I liked in person, and they were like $45, but I didn't pull the trigger. I wasn't completely happy with them, only OK with them.

Next stop, sort of a high-end sunglass store in the same mall. They carry Oakley, Arnette, D&G, Ray-Ban, etc. I found several pairs of Arnette that I liked.

This pair costs $109 and was my favorite EXCEPT for the hideous logo on the side. The pair I was looking at was more of a tortoise color than these: (edit for better pic)

I also liked this pair, which cost $80, but the wife HATED them for some reason. Oh well. These were a tortoise color as well. The logo is less offensive on this pair because it doesn't stand out as much as the gold did on the other pair. I know it's not obvious from the pics.

There were a few Ray-Bans that were decent, but I didn't love them enough to pay big bucks.

I guess I'm still stuck with either Smith Toasters for $130 polarized, or maybe I can live with the logo on the Arnette Tantrum (they told me if I try to scratch it off, it will void the warranty, lol).

None of the Oakleys seemed to fit me well; the wife didn't like the fives 3.0 or whatever.

edit again: I think this is the color and lens I was looking at

Someone aside from CDC needs to purchase this pair. You know who you are.

I just purchased this recently,

The tint is darker, the picture just sucks I think. It's not completely opaque though, you could still see my eyes.

I actually paid about 25 dollars too much (came out to like 250) or so for them, as I found them cheaper online. But they fit pretty well at the store. I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to sunglasses, and I've gotten some mixed opinions about my new pair. fwiw, I like them, but I don't know how good they are from a fashion perspective, so feel free to chime in if you want :P

Sirasoni,

Your fashion forward friends or the ones who appreciate European tastes would likely consider those nice shades. I on the other hand like many European looks aside from D&G, [censored] (really a cheap retailer that overcharges), etc but to each their own.

I have had the Smith Toasters for about 3 years now. I really like them. You can get all sorts of different lenses for them. I have a light yellow tinted lens that I put in and use for safety glasses in the garage.
I use to just get cheap glasses cause I'd lose them all the time. It's funny how much better you keep track of nice glasses after spending 160+...
