It's an unsubtle problem; we're aware of it. However, in regards to your brother, I think it's worth stepping in and saying something, because rapid weight gain (as well as dramatically increased appetite) can be a symptom of many more serious problems. It's important for him to be getting proper medical care. It's very easy in our culture to feel that one's weight gain is a personal failing and fail to investigate other possibilities. |

I don't see what is such a big deal about finding the right time to bring up the topic.
"Can I ask you something? I know it's kind of personal so just tell me to shut up if you don't want to talk about it.... But are you concerned about your weight?" Something like that. I've never done that I don't think. But with the right person I don't think it would be so horribly awkward to bring up the topic in such a way. |
