Here's a thought. I don't know if it is a good idea or not, but nobody has mentioned this angle yet.

Kyl and the NCALG and all the other moralists point out that you can still play poker with play money on the internet so no poker player is being denied the opportunity to play. Stupid I know, but...

Prima has playmoney tournaments that anyone can play at without depositing one red cent. And these tournaments pay out in real money. I think they have 5 $1000.00 tournaments a day, every single day, plus a $250.00 and a $500.00. The point is just because you are receiving money from a gambling site does not mean that you are gambling neccessarily.

You could think about calling them back, telling them that you use to play for real money but with the new legislation you've decided to be a good boy and now only play with play money. And you play alot at Prima, well, because you can win real cash there. Again $1000.00 5 times a day +. Tell them you have done absolutely nothing wrong except conform to the will of the law and you want them to stop harrassing you or you will sue the heck out of them and their attractive deep pockets.

OK, we all know that this is BS, but it has enough truth that a person could sell it. And even if it doesn't get them off your back, you will be no worse off then you are now except you will have made their day miserable.The more hardships that are made for banks over this, the better for us in the long run IMO.

Tell them it is from your online business. If they ask for further info, ask them politely if there is a problem? why do they need to know?

Just tell them you sell off Ebay or something. You have no obligation to tell them where the money comes from and are not liable if you lie to them. They aren't the [censored] cops, they aren't the DOJ.

That is structuring. Structuring is a felony. Since you broke it up into chunks over $5,000 the bank is legally required to file a Suspicious Activity Report with the feds. You'll be lucky if all they do is close your account and give you the money.

Actually, this is about the most naive perspective in the entire thread. The bank is required to have in place procedures to identify suspsicious transactions and to investigate those transactions. What's more, the banking regulators—at least the OCC, which regulates NatCity and other federally chartered commercial banks—require them to take action if the customer refuses to provide responses to reasonable request for information. The source of the funds in question is one of the items at the top of the request list. If the bank fails to have such procedures in place or fails to follow them, the bank can be fined or otherwise penalized.

Cliff Notes: The bank has the right and, in fact, the obligation to dig into your finances under these circumstances. They also have the right to close your account for any reason.

Does it suck sometimes? Yeah! Is the law? Yep.
