Is the Benigno rd way really any quicker.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've never seen any traffic on Benigno. It dumps you off on 42 without messing with all the stoplights if you take Blackhorse all the way to the Expressway. I can't say exactly how much time it saves but I can say that after I took it the first time I never went the old way again.

[/ QUOTE ]

Depending on the time of day you hit it you can save 20 minutes easily. I do miss stopping at wawa, but I always take the short cut now.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well i guess I'll check it out on my next trip up in a few days. TY for the input.

I always stop at that wawa, picking up drinks and the occasional sub if we're hungry. Plus the cheap gas.

The exit 1C trick is the way Greyhound does it. It is also the way I do it.

After crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge, take 295 N towards Trenton/Camden. At milepost 25 or so get in the center lane. Follow the signs that say 295N/76W LOCAL LANES (Camden/Trenton). After the highway narrows to one lane, and joins the main lanes, quickly move one lane to the left as soon as possible (to avoid going to Trenton). Then after the 2 right lanes peel off to Trenton (295N), go about 1000 feet, cut across 2 lanes of traffic entering the highway, and take exit 1C. This all happens very fast, PAY ATTENTION. Turn left at the stop sign, go over the highway, take the 1st right which is 42S, after rejoining the highway, move a couple lanes to the left and follow the signs to AC.

I am making the trek from from Gaithersburgh, MD to AC on Thursday. I would like to avoid crazy turns and shortcuts, much like the advice above. I don't mind taking an extra 10 minutes so I don't get lost. Many casino websites say to go 95 > Walt Whitman Bridge > 42 S > AC Expressway > Poker Glory. Has anyone tried the Walt Whitman route and is it really that much longer than the AC shortcut?

95 to WW Bridge means going through Philly a bit, and that's horrible. This way has to add 30-60 minutes to the trip, no?

No, surprisingly, unless there's a construction delay or something, I make it from AC to Baltimore (and vice versa) in about the same time using the WWB as the usual route. The main reason being that the traffic moves on 95 near Philly really well compared to the slight slowdowns around the Del Mem Bridge toll booths (even if you have EZPass). You don't really go into Philly; you just are on the highway right next to it. As a bonus, you get a nice view of the skyline.

I'm going to do some direct timed comparisons now that beach traffic season has passed, but it must be at least as fast because in the past, I've made it from Baltimore to AC in less than 2.5 hours using the WWB.

I can usually get from Baltimore to AC in 2hr15m using the Del Mem bridge - NJTP - ACE. I think it's the best way.

The problem these days is that 95 between the Delaware/Pennsylvania border and Philly is nothing BUT a construction zone. I've driven from Wilmington to Philly 10 times or so in the past 3 weeks, including 3 trips to AC, and each time the Northbound traffic has slowed to a complete stop once just before exit 4 and again right after the airport exit.

If you want to still take a fairly direct route while avoiding most but not all of the northbound jams, try this:

Take 95N to 322E - this is the Commodore Barry Bridge exit
Cross the Delaware River into NJ.
Take the 2nd exit onto 295N
Follow 295N to the 130N exit
Take 130N for about 4 miles. Pass through a traffic circle, pass a Wachovia and a bunch of fast food joints. You will come to a traffic light and will see signs for I-76/Philadelphia to the left, and the AC expressway to the right. Take a right and then an immediate left onto 42 South. This will take you to the AC expressway.

This is not as short of a shortcut as Bunky's cut, but is more direct and eliminates some but not all of the current construction zones on I-95 between Delaware and Philly.

Old thread, but this should help the Montco crowd. It's only good if I-76 is FUBAR as it's longer and slower.

- Ridge Pike EAST
- stay left at Andorra split for Henry Ave.
- Henry Ave. all the way through past US 1, make RIGHT on Hunting Park Ave. (soft right at 5 point intersection)
- stay left at split, then turn LEFT to Kelly Drive
- Kelly Drive to Art Museum circle
- exit circle, following signs for I-676 (2nd circle outlet)
- I-676 to BFB, cross to Jersey, continue I-676 to Rt 42 to ACX
