Re: Who hired the 6th Grader?
Many people instinctively relate quality of service to quality of advertising. If two similar ads to the subject ones were side by side, 80% would click the good one, expecting the people behind it to be good, too.

Zeturd, I think it sucks. I would redo it and have a little bit of the 4 visible under the 5 card. Then it would totally rule. [/ QUOTE ] One other very small adjustment would be to use a 4-color deck. You do that Zeturd, and I see big things in your future. |

Although Zeturd's effort is undoubtedly aesthetically more pleasing than the original effort, does it perform the task at hand as well as the original? It's really a question of responses(is the present look effective?)vs. alienation of readers(still hard to believe a significant number of people give a rat's behind what it looks like). Lots of looks is probably good, no? Many years ago Wisk had an ad that asked "Ring around the collar?" Everyone agreed it was a horrible ad, but it was highly effective as it got your attention. Maybe this is 2+2's version of ring around the collar. [/ QUOTE ] That's what A/B testing is for. A 2 line PHP script that chooses an integer between 0 and 1 and shows ugly green or nice ZeTurd. And you change the link to http://www.twoplustwo.com/bonus/?a1 and http://www.twoplustwo.com/bonus/?a2 Now in the server stats you see which one got more hits and that's your winner. Then you make another ad and test it against the current winning ad in a similar fashion. Pretty basic usability stuff as said by others and myself. |

Re: Who hired the 6th Grader?
Hi ZT:
I like your design. Hopefully we can use it. Also, did you know that for a very brief period of time (about 15 years ago) there was also a Two Plus Three Publishing. So your 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] was used once before. Best wishes, Mason |

Re: Who hired the 6th Grader?
All, thanks for the positive feedback. Kind of surprised since it was a hack job done in 5-10 minutes. I suspect the contrast between my ad and the old ad may have colored the reviews in a positive fashion though.
[ QUOTE ] Hi ZT: I like your design. Hopefully we can use it. [/ QUOTE ] I hereby officially grant you permission to do what you see fit with it, so as to alleviate any legal concerns. Do remember that it wasn't designed with much thought to the background and overall aesthetics of the front page, so it may have to be tweaked a bit to fit in (which I'll be happy to do.) [ QUOTE ] Also, did you know that for a very brief period of time (about 15 years ago) there was also a Two Plus Three Publishing. Sort of related, I can change the pic slightly to make the 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] show underneath. Initially I didn't want to do that since it then would look like the hand 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], not the 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] replacing the 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], but it might be better that way. |

The purpose of the graphic isn't to look good but to get your attention. So I guess our sixth grader just made it to junior high. MM [/ QUOTE ] I just blew away what your 6th grader did! Hire me! |

I'm not gonna lie here; ads like this are the ones that I use adblock on immediately.
