WTF? I thought Jordin put in a boring but technically good (Melindaesque) performance, but the judges slobbed all over her. Best ever in 6 years of idol? I don't think it would make top 10 from this year.

Maybe I'm losing my mind but Jordin just sounded like over-the-top shrieking/screeching to me. Very unpleasant, bordering on unlistenable. I commented to my wife that if I heard that on the radio, I'd switch the channel inside of about 5 seconds. *shrug*
Melinda's performance was too gospelly, and I'm usually a big fan. Not much to like overall tonight.

I think Randy's memory is failing him if he thinks Jordin had one of the best performances ever. She had a decent finish, but her voice was shaky through much of the song. To talk about that being in the same league as Fantasia's Summertime or McPhee's Rainbow or any of a dozen others I could name is laughable. It seems to me that the judges (even Simon, surprisingly) are really grading on a curve this year.

I don't think I know anyone that has seen more than a few episodes of this season and doesn't absolutely loathe Melinda; it's almost to the point where I wonder how she continues to get votes. There are only so many black people watching American Idol.

I re-watched Jordin and she clearly was the best of the show but nothing great. What a joke this whole field is. Melinda has been consistantly good but I am almost never blown away. Yes McPhee's Over the Rainbow was classic. Randy is full of sh*t. Seriously with each show Idol loses more and more credibility. Actually it lost ALL credibility when they didn't fire Paula. No I don't mean for substance abuse. I mean for when she had sex with a contestant while he was still in the competition.
On another note it looks like, except for the Jordin, the bottom 3 is up for grabs. Maybe my girl will live on. Although if Lakisha does survive I am doubting she can pick the right song and deliver it.

[/ QUOTE ] The judges are bigging up her performance to manufacture a "moment" in the same way they did with Katherine McFat's dreary Somewhere Over the Rainbow last year. Same as last year the judges know it's not the best performance ever, and they know we know that, but hey wouldn't it be nice if we could all pretend for a second it might be... As for top performances - obviously Fantasia's Summertime, and Kelly Clarkson's second performance of Moment Like This. What else?
